Hello Covers Community! The most exciting two minutes in sports in almost here and here goes….
First off, I can’t wait for 8:40 EDT on Friday. Percy’s Bar is running in the Kentucky Oaks. Along with Sovereignty, she has rewarded me nicely since last year. A bit concerned with Luan Machado, but to quote D. Wayne Lukas… “people have opinions, but horses have the facts”. Go Percy!
I have been watching the field for Derby 152 run their 2026 races and have not been blown away by almost all of them. So, by process of elimination, I have settled on my selection…
The colt that has my vote is 3 for 3. The average field size in his victories is 11.67. He carried 126 lbs. in his last win. In that win, a prestigious race, his winning time was the fastest in over 25 years. His three races were at 1 1/8 or more. In his recent race, he was geared down in the last 50 yards so much so, that his “gallop out” was over before you knew it. With a staking style of running, he should get a nice position early.
This guy’s trainer was a student of Aidan O’Brien before going out on his own. The crowd at Churchill Downs, probably 150,000 or so, is going to be larger than he’s used to. That’s ok, because he has run in front of crowds of 100,000. Yep, I’m putting my bucks on Danon Bourbon.
In closing, I’m going for a hat trick in this post. Cherie Devaux loves her entry in the Pat Day Mile…Englishman.
Good luck all!

I was torn between Commitment at 38-1 and Englishman at about the same odds in the pool three Derby future. I choose Englishman as I already had 4others in play. So of course I will be watching closely and hopes not a total underlay. I’ve bet a few Japanese horses in the past most recently Derma Sotogake when he was actually the third choice at 8-1.
Horse had all the talent in the world, but unfortunately bumped the gate as they took off and never recovered.
Danon Bourbon (Lucky#7) is visually so impressive. And yeah 1 1/4 .. no problem. Just some racing luck and handling a track that goes left as opposed to all of his races that have gone right, but that shouldn’t be a problem as he’s been training well. I have not heard he is the wise guy horse, but I have heard him called the wild card in certain circles.
Trying to remember the name of the wise guy horse as I typed this,Chief Wallace, he qualifies as a horse who was never favored in any of his races (although he came close was 2nd choice at 5-2) are two for 40 in the Kentucky Derby. Gl on your play
