@Crusher13
Pletcher, Maker & Weaver all worked for the Coach. Lukas was dominant for decades. He always gave a young jockey a chance. He had been nurturing Nik Juarez & he became exclusive for Lukas. Lukas came from the Quarter Horse circuit (like Baffert) & had different training habits that were questioned by the horse racing establishment & Kentucky hierarchy. The problem was he kept winning & beating their asses. He is a legend.
So I was wondering who would be taking over the training duties & found out some info. On Saturday in the 8th race @ Ellis #5 Our Keepsake is now trained by J S Nicholl & it will be his first race with horses previously trained by Coach. Actually it will be his 1st race as a trainer. He's been with Lukas for over 20 years. ML is 3-1.
Everybody at the track will know the same thing & will pound him at the window IMO. But here's the thing, it's a great sentimental bet but this girl hasn't won in 15 months. She's been knocking on the door running 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 2nd. The racing industry is pretty tight nit & I've heard stories that races have been thrown to help a jockey returning from an injury, like Gafflione tomorrow, to help pay the bills since they weren't making money when injured. At the same time, a guy like Gafflione had no problems paying his bills but here we're talking a Lukas protege training his 1st race. Hell, they make movies like this kind of storyline.
Just sayin...
