What could an unarmed USA do if their government became tyrannical?

If that were to happen pretty much the only thing they could do is the same thing tens of millions of civilians did in Europe and Asia after their governments implemented gun control.
Die.

I see your concern. However, the state is an abstract entity that lives only in the citizen's mind of that particular country. Those few poeple in the government have power because hundreds of thousands people enforce their laws (because they think they are subordinates and don't have powers themselves), while the rest of the population abide by them, either by consent, fear or just subserviency. The government, ufortunately, is just the embodiment of the majority of the people whom have given authorization for them to make laws for you. Do not forget 90% of the electorate supported Hitler in 1934.

Fighting between executive, legislative and judicial branches are the REAL checks against tyranny and NOT overrated gun owners . Abolishing Congress and Courts would have greater impacts than banning all guns. Besides, no guarantee that a well armed population can stop tyranny. For example, Iraq under Saddam.
Hmm, I think I’m going to have to side with the Founding Fathers on this one.

So what happens if everyone in the country owns a military weapon that could potentially kill a thousand people in 5 minutes..
Then an asteroid hits the earth, what will happen to the people then? Will the guns protect us?
This tyranny argument is so tiring..just another media sound bite to get suckers in fear of the government and each other.
I can come up with another "what if" for fun if you like..

a few years ago i would have called the thought of my gov't detaining me without charges wacky as well
A wee bit different than detaining several hundred million folks I think.
Detaining without charges isnt new..been happening for centuries.

Lets take the wacky talk a step further..

Actually, the people who founded America wrote quite extensively on the topic of tyranny. The question is, why don't you believe in the ideas upon which America was founded?
Your "what if" is not only not responsive to the topic, it isn't tangentially related.

So what happens if everyone in the country gets "free" government sponsored healthcare..
Then an asteroid hits the earth, what will happen to the people then? Will the government healthcare protect us?

Logic. It is fun, isn't it?

You and I have discussed this before.
The context in which you are liberally using regarding the founding fathers is severely misguided..(btw thats a nice way of saying what you do so bluntly and rudely).
The context came from their recent experience in a different country with different economic and geographic parameters.
Now if I had come from what they did at that time given those parameters then for sure I would probably think how they did.
If you want to go back to Europe and live there then sure you can talk tyranny all you want because it has much more validity (even though in reality what the government did to the early settlers wasnt even close to what you and the gun pals are insinuating).
So context is important, perspective and context..which was why I gave the phony asteroid example..it also lacks context and reality..which to me this entire phony gun grab scare tactic reeks of.

"Phony asteroid example...it also lacks context and reality"----
I agree----the chances of an asteroid hitting us lacks context and reality----
I don't agree----that an unarmed USA is not possible when it is in the "works" to be done by our government today.
In Egypt----a country with very strict gun laws-----they are protesting right now as I type this-----about the laws being created-----these laws do not represent what citizens of that country want------once the government started firing rifle shots, the crowds backed up-----
Asteroid hitting Earth?-----not likely soon
Unarmed USA hitting Earth?-------entering the atmosphere--will we stop it?

yes---and this is AMERICA---the United States of America---who became the land of the free because of the laws the founding fathers created----why would we start treating gun policy like all the other countries?-----if I want to learn to master my free-throw shot, I'll watch Kobe and do as he does----if we want to learn how to master our gun shots, why are we watching and following Hitler's free-throw shot on the subject?
Are we going to be end up protesting like Egypt when the government decides to ban our cell phones and communication means? The government will shoot rifles and tear gas at us, and all we can do is make fireworks with bottles and get tired---until we go home and accept every law without the people's representation.
The countries that don't have the Land of the Free's 2nd amendment, should instill this law into their land-----

and the Government decided to become tyrannical like 1940 Germany's Government
happened a lot earlier in germany than the 1940's. Hitler and the NAZI party gained control of the government in 1933 and actually reversed the Weimar Republic's 1928 gun control laws BUT in 1938 they passed restricions on person and other "noniaryans" owning firearms.
which, btw, was similar to laws in American southern states on minority gun ownership.which the NRA was all in favor of during that same time in history ![]()
