Attacks the plateletes etc and destroys the tissue throughout the body. When it arrives at the internal organs then you can imagine the havoc. Correct antivenom dilutes the process before it's too late.
I'll take the neurotoxin instead thanks.
Venom and poisons are one of natures most amazing creations imo.

There are over 20 thousand different venoms in the wild. 10,000 that we know of only 500 HUNDRED (god didn't have time for that), that have been studied.
Venom and poison (ie Dart Frog) may someday provide more information to humans as to it's healing properties for humans.
Fascinating PBS NOVA recent program to watch here if you have an interest. Well worth your time.

Exactly Mugg. 5,000 N American diamonback hits per year for example. 6 fatalities. That's the modern world with choppers and anti venin.
3rd world there is no anti venin (very expensive), they simply put them on a resspirator and hope for a week, at least.

always wear jeans an d always carry a long stick to tap the ground with when walking in snake country.
They'll never bother ya. Don't prey on humans.
Black Mamba crossed my path walking in South Africa. This boy was at least 9 feet long and faaaast. He had zero interest because he knew I was coming and moved away like any snake does.. Never forgot that afternoon.

That's a Russell's Viper.
And compared to the deadliest snakes in the world it might be in the top 20 as far as venom toxicity. I believe the top 10 are all in Australia. There's snakes out there that have venom that are, no kidding, about 50 to 100 more toxic. Don't quote me on that number though... I'll do more research.

I found this list and thought you guys might like to check it out. Very interesting stuff. The levels of venom toxicity of these snakes are absolutely insane. And I was wrong because according to this list, the Russell's Viper is #6 I think. But still, compare it to the Taipan and the Russell's Viper is small time. Fucking insane.
When I was a kid I had a boa constrictor, and sometimes had as many as 15-20 different Garter Snakes and Northern Water Snakes. My one childhood friend Eric still calls me "snake man" to this day. Fascinating creatures they are.
I have a Pueblan Milk Snake now. She's pretty cool and looks just like the snake in the link below.
