So about a week after he gets fired for his involvement in the biggest scandal in the history of American sports, his legacy is destroyed, and the media is bashing him left and right all of a sudden he announces that he has cancer.
That is one hell of a coincidence.
I suppose he thinks this means the public and media will give him a pass for allowing children to be raped by his friend for over a decade.
Think again, Joe. 
Joe Paterno could die a slow and painful death and I could not care less.

you cant be serious with this post? Joe pa pa is told that his buddy sandusky was ass raping some 10 year old in the shower and instead of doing everything he could to see this guy go to jail, he lets him keep an office on campus so he could abuse more kids.

Thanks, cd for pointing out the blatantly obvious facts to those Covers members who wish to ignore them.
If there was any adult that knew of any type of sexual abuse of a child at that institution, and that adult did nothing except "tell their supervisor", then that adult is morally, ethically, and legally guilty of doing the wrong thing.
The right thing would have been to immediately contact law enforcement, immediately suspend (without pay) the suspect of the most heinous crime known to man, and immediately pursue all of the facts of the crime in question.
For all those who love Paterno, keep loving him - nothing wrong with his accomplishments on the field. But as far a his accomplishments as a decent human being - there is none; his inaction after knowledge of this horrible crime against a child has allowed himself to be thrown into the pits with the most vile of human beings.
For that and that only, Paterno goes from a man of class in the collegiate arena to a despicable human being.
It's really that simple.

if you knew anything about joe he would be the last one who would ever want to announce this. my understanding is his family was repeatedly asked why he was in the hospital and his son Scott said why. Shame on them??
joe minimizes everything, which may have been his ultimate problem. he wants no attention to him and was upset when they put on a statue on campus because of him. he wanted it taken down!
sure he's got an ego, show me a male who doesn't, especially a successful, rich, educated one. but until now, no one has ever had a bad word to say about him as a human being or the young men he consistently has graduated.
unfortunately for his haters, he will beat this cancer the doctors say, as easily as he has beat 409 different football teams.
