Here's an article saying they may in fact get a refund, written on the 15th of February... just 15 hours ago.
I don't have time to research it any further and it doesn't matter to me as I don't live there.

They expected pot sales to bring the state 70 million dollars in taxes. In actuality it only brought in 44 million.
The above was in the OP of this thread. It should be noted that the revenue, with license fees, was right around 77 million for 2014.
They're also saving millions for not enforcing the laws.
They also created about 10,000 new jobs out of thin air.
They have also seen a drop in violent crime and non-violent crime, as well as a drop in fatal road accidents.
The economic impact of legal Cannabis in Colorado is staggering. And Ohio might be next.

They're not spending nearly as much money and man hours enforcing Cannabis prohibition. This includes raiding houses, actively looking for grows, booking people, trying people, housing prisoners (which include food and other prison expenses). This also frees them up to spend more time on real crimes. It should be noted that violent crime is has dropped (may or may not be related to legalization). This of course saves the police departments money as well as they are not spending time and money on those crimes that aren't happening.

I was wrong. They're saving billions with a 'B', not millions.
Granted, last year law enforcement did ask for more money for training on spotting stoned drivers. However, it's difficult to justify the perceived need to spend more money on training for a problem that isn't yet a problem. They are anticipating that stoned drivers will become a problem. To this point, it hasn't been. Even if we see an uptick in stoned drivers being arrested, we have to ask "Is it happening more often, or are the police ramping up enforcement on it?" Regardless, Colorado has not seen a problem with stoned drivers wreaking havoc on the roads.

How are they saving millions? Police, DA's etc are paid a salary. Do they have that many less law and order employees today than they did before? Do you have the numbers? What about the additional employees the state needs to regulate the industry?

I watched a C-SPAN special about Colorado's first year of this. It was quite interesting listening to all points of the debate. Personally, I think it's a bad thing because I believe it's a gateway drug and I believe long term use will cause brain damage and the availability to kids is much easier because it's everywhere. The real problem they're having is the commercialization, 300 stores in Denver alone as well as the eatables (lack of oversight, kids getting them because they don't look like what they are). Another ironic twist to this is the prevalent amount of right-leaning people screaming to keep it illegal and reverse prohibition are the same ones that cry out for personal liberties and freedom. These people will look the other way while companies dump waste into our rivers as long as it makes them money,,,and are adamant that "big government" has no role in industry, yet want to push their morality on others, brandishing those that chose to use marijuana as "lazy" or having no drive.
I am hoping that they change their motto to a more realistic line, "More freedom and liberty....as long as you chose the same freedoms and liberties as me!"

adamjoe please get us some scientific and observational evidence that kids start doing heroin, meth, crack, cocaine before smoking pot.
I'm not saying that smoking marijuana guarantees going on to harder stuff but I also don't think that kids start off with the hard stuff and then start smoking marijuana. Prove me wrong with scientific facts.

Marijuana is a gateway drug. Marijuana does make you lazy and marijuana kills a persons natural drive towards success.
If you put 100 professionals (bankers, CEO's, engineers, lawyers, doctors, dentists, accountants etc) on one side of the room and you put 100 low achieving (unemployed, laborers, min wage earners etc) on the other side of the room... What group would have more habitual pot smokers?
I am far from right leaning.

I've smoked pounds of pot, I've grown pot, I've stopped smoking pot, I've talked to hundreds of people in prison as a direct result of their alcohol and drug use and I've talked to thousands of people that have or have had alcohol and drug problems. So when you say my knowledge comes from the media, WTF are you talking about?
You're just a lost burnout, trying to make ends meet, preaching on a subject that you're ignorant about, to justify your pot smoking and burnt out lifestyle.
