Switzerland has strict gun laws that Americans would consider tyrannical. Actually, United States have looser gun control. Another difference is stronger social programs in Switzerland. Swiss culture is more about civic duty or support while American culture is selfish individualism.

"What posters want is to attack others. I naively started out originally thinking that serious discussions were possible. But I quickly found everyone has an opinion and anybody that disagrees is just stupid... or racist... or retarded... or whatever the insult of the day is...
My favorite part is anything said that is not supportive of those poor people is just a hater... "

Excellent observation but I think it's inherent to all discussion boards.

Okay. But why do you have to do that? Eventually the Southside creeps North?

Obviously none of this is correct. Lot more involved than having strong social programs. Lotta selfish people do NOT go out and shoot someone.

Uh, have you ben there? Everything Randisist said and a little more. Every man, woman, and child has a hob to do in case of a conflict or invasion. Tunnels have demolition chambers built into them, that's how they construct things.
One family will have the charges, one will have the blasting caps, and another will have the fuses.
Once a male completes active duty they are put in the first reserve, second reserve, third reserve, etc...as they age. They're not really released from the military until age 65.
One Sunday morning, while staying at an inn at the base of the Silberhorn, I woke up thinking I was back in 'Nam. gunfire, lots of gunfire, automatic weapons. I asked the innkeeper what was going on and she said, "You'd call it the National Guard. They're out there practicing."
PS
Swiss culture is about playing both sides of the fence and calling it neutrality.

Although Switzerland has a high level of gun possession, guns are tightly regulated according to University of Sydney. Unlike Switzerland, the United States is different.
Americans with convictions, can legally buy guns. Those obtaining permits are not required to give any reason to carry a gun in public. Police has no individual discretion in denying gun purchases or concealed gun permit. Private sale of guns are unregulated with no background check or paperwork required. Few States require licensing and registration.

Years ago guns were much more freely accessed and violent crime was not where it is now. What changed? More regulations made it worse?
