Really falling in love with this number. I saw ND play last year vs USC and their offense was mediocre. A lot of starters returning ( 9/O, 10/D) but I don't see this team improve at all from last year. Coach Strong will have his defense even though only 5 return in that side.

LY Irish played close games with 3 defensive minded teams (LSU,FSU,Standford) ...Not saying Texas is close to these teams, but i think 2nd year of coaching will have this team close to that Louisville D Strong had a few years ago.

Not sure I'll played the ML play, but I think getting +10 to make a national impression is a great number for the 2nd year coach.

Best dog plays for week 1 are...

Michigan (for reasons i mentioned in 2 previous threads)

BYU - Taysom Hill is back and their offense is very good when he plays. Nebraska defense is shaky at best and they have lost a few weapons on offense...also a new head coach.

The loss of Jamaal Williams is bad for BYU. I worry that Taysom Hill will be a bit tentative.

UNC still has a player on the OLine that mysteriously hasn't shown up for practice yet. It's being kept very quiet but I talked with an insider yesterday who told me that. Also, one of their defensive starters was suspended for the first two games.

Definitely agree with Bookie on the UCLA matchup... don't care what Virginia did last year, there is no reason to bet them in this game. It's a situation where, if you like Virginia, the correct wager is no wager at all. Otherwise, bet UCLA!

As for dogs, South Dakota St looks like a gimme...

Longshot .. Florida International +16.5

Possibly Tulane +7. Both DUKE n CENTRAL FLORIDA lost a ton of offensive production. I think both cover.

Penn State might go down, everyone seems to be high on that play. Probably the biggest game in Temple history, high expectations. 19 returning starters, on I believe the #4 scoring defense. Temple returns Williams at RB and also add another good back, can't remember his name.

Charlotte 49ers +4.5 at Georgia State

Wayyyyyy under the radar, but Charlotte's OL coach & recruiting coordinator + one of the figures to get the program going recently died at the age of 44, so obviously, this is going to be one of those emotional "let's win one for..." types of games that always seem to end in victory for the affected team.

This is their first year in "Division I", but last year Charlotte went 5-6, losing 5 games in single digits of which two games were against competitive FCS teams James Madison & Charleston Southern. They got slapped around by powerhouse Coastal Carolina, but that team could have been competitive against most MAC, Sun Belt, C-USA teams last year.

This year, they return 16 starters which will be a help against a "bad" team like Georgia State which got throttled in most its games last year.

It may be a dumpster fire of a game, but what else are you going to do @ 3:30 PM on Friday, September 4th? It'll be the only game in town, airing on ESPN U.

And of course, I just noticed your post. Damn, and I thought I was going to be special in turning people's attention to this obscure game.

But like I alluded to, it will be the only game on the ESPN family of networks at its time, so there will be an inordinate amount of coverage leading up to kickoff.

I really like GEO Southern + 18.5.......This team was 9-3 last season and played well enough to win games on the road against NC ST and GEO Tech, losing narrowly to both....They run the triple option although they will have a revamped O-Line this season they return 2 very talented RB's who allowed this team to lead the nation in rushing (380 YDS per game) and their QB who both ran and passed for over 1000 YDS....WV lost 4 out of their last to end the season last year and will have their hands full trying to stop this tricky offense.

I like the returning coach, with the better experience at the QB spot....I think UW has a shot at the upset....but then again, could be a blue turf blowout the other way...this will only be a 1 unit play for me.

Also, AS freakig U! Explosive offense that played a lot of freshmen/sophmores last year in meaningful minutes. Bercovici is dam&=*ed good too. The wrong team is favored in this game. Sun Devils on the money line would not be a bad play.

Watching WK vs CM last year. WK up 49-14 in the 4th with a little over 10 minutes and CM comes back to lose 49-48.

Im making a prediction based on average of their season, in WKY case I cant judge em because of one bad game, after all they averaged 44.4 points per game thats 2.5 times what Vandy averaged and they had a couple of cupcakes including Temple in which they lost 37-7...

You see where Im coming from now? I think WKY is a better team

Like WKU and Michigan ML. Doughty is going to bring it. Harbaugh will turn this Michigan team around. Also like SMU +35. Sorry, yes Baylor will have a good team this yr, but if anyone really lays 35 on the road with a new QB vs a more improved SMU offense, that's just insane. Will wait for 35.5 tho as pub will bet the Bears up. Lean Temple and Wisconsin plus the points as well. BOL
