Purdue fires head football coach

Question

Darell Hazell (9-33) was fired today as head football coach at Purdue.  Hazell was just 3-22 in Big Ten play.Guess my question is, why wasn&#x27;t he fired at the end of the 2015 season?

They  now owe him a ton of money and their football program, one of the worst in the nation for a recognizable team, is already bleeding it. Bad decision financially, sound decision strategically.

Yea I&#x27;m always a little surprised when some schools do this. Not exactly chump change to buy out that contract. A program like Michigan or Florida with big dollars, sure. But not Purdue.

I would have shitcannned him the day after they blew the 2015 opener @Marshall.

Does the top brass at Purdue believe that they can get bowl eligible this season? That may be a bit ambitious......

that is a job you simply can&#x27;t have much success in 2016 when you are facing all the great coaches in today&#x27;s Big10, feel bad for him but at least I won&#x27;t have to see that "square brim" on his hats anymore

This firing makes no sense. They are 3-3 and having their best year win wise under hazell. They have 3 winnable games left and would be bowl eligible. Now they owe him a ton of money and have to start over. They're not getting miles, it's a pipe dream. Unless there's a player mutiny or something we don't know about, this is a dumb decision

This is why purdue has gone nowhere since joe tiller retired

It&#x27;s true. 3-3 is his best record as Hendrix noted.Give him a chance to get to a bowl like he said he would. .500 through 3 games is above and beyond expectations.

No kidding......I had Purdue on the Moneyline big in that one.....it was a fat &#x2B;250 and a great spot to earn..opening weekend with a ton of returners against a Marshall squad moving on from QB Cato? What a spot......only Purdue pissses that one away.I absolutely hang that loss on Hazell. He should have made the change after the opening pick 6 from Appleby and went to Blough. They split reps all through summer camp, so it wouldn&#x27;t have been a big switch...and they would have won the game. Seriously, the first play of the game, and your QB throws to the flat against a base cover 2? Nice read Apple.......have a seat. OR he could have taken the game out of Appleby&#x27;s hands...they were running the ball well....didn&#x27;t need captain fantastic to throw 2 pick 6&#x27;s and sink the ship. HC&#x27;s need to have better feel......... To me, that showed Hazell&#x27;s inability to make decisions on the fly.....and was a great illustration of how limited he is as a head coach. How the heck did he get the job to begin with? In any case, Purdue should have let him play the string out and moved on immediately with their coaching hire. Buying 6 weeks for their coaching search isn&#x27;t going to get them anywhere....AND if the interim coach gets them to a bowl game, then they will likely end up having to hire the prickk. Which means 4 more years of winter at Purdue.

Les Miles AIN&#x27;T going to be Purdue&#x27;s next coach.  Purdue is a major rebuilding job and at his age...Les has no interest.Just thinking out loud but Navy&#x27;s Ken Niumatalolo would be a great hire for Purdue.  He&#x27;s proven over and over he can win without elite talent and his option offense would give Big Ten defenses fits.  Not sure Niumatalolo would leave Annapolis...after all, he turned down BYU&#x27;s advances.

Art Briles could probably jump ship from the Browns to help out Purdont.  Lots of people will hate it but why not.   Or wait til the end of the season and hire Charlie Strong

No shot ken n goes there. He&#x27;d have to change his offense to passing. The option game not wanted at a place lik ed purdue. They know they wouldn&#x27;t be able to recruit the 2 and 3 star guys because 99% of college kids,want to play in modern offenses that throw the ball

Actually, Les Miles buyout was $12.9 million minus any money paid this season.Miles has indicated he wants to go into broadcasting.  Why not take it easy and draw down the millions LSU owes him.

Purdue had a good program during the Joe Tiller era. They probably saw more bowl games in that stretch than Vandy has in their history. As far as the firing goes, it&#x27;s gotta be something internal that none of us know about. Unless, as I noted earlier, they have wink-wink agreement with someone that became available.

PJ Fleck would be a good choice, but I see him looking at Miss St. or possibly Baylor.

My money is on Brock Spack, HC at Illinois St. Former All Big 10 LB, former DC under Tiller (I think). Should've gotten the job before Hazell, but.... Hell, Spack might still be miffed that he didn't get the job in the first place and stay at ILL St.

Really, who cares? It's Purdon't and BB is right around the corner!
