SIDE OF YEAR: MEMPHIS @ TEMPLE
Those of you that have been following my freakish win streak on hear lately know that a lot of the games I am playing on involve the Temple Owls.
It really is a coincidence in this is the case, that Temple is involved, but it has given me a little more insight then I usually would get from my usual scouting brief on this team.
Tonight, once again the owls will be involved in my play of the year so far.... But lets get to the good stuff.
Tonight I just max bet the Memphis Tigers at -6.0 (bought the point & half down from 7.5)
I would still bet it at 7.5, but when I max bet I go for the kill, so the six provides excellent insurance if it is a close game at the end.
The low down...
Temple really has been doing everything with smoke and mirrors. A slew of turnovers, bad weather and special teams plays are the only reason the owls have wins this season. Their offense is remedial at best and they are running plays that the QB just can't relate at the line in this hurry-up system.
Too many 3rd and long plays make it impossible for the owls to sustain offensive drives...much like their neighborhood NFL Eagles....the Owls offense makes a big play and scores it's points...but they have no ball controlling scoring drives, it's boom or bust a couple times a half and then that's it for the offensive output. That leaves the D and special teams with onus of scoring two or three td's to pick up the slack.
Last week the owls got the perfect storm....LOL....literally....when the game time weather vs the ECU Pirates was Hurricane Like and ECU looked eager to just get the F out of the driving rain...to head to their bye week.
Temple got enough points and bled the clock to zeros in the second half, but it wasn't pretty.
Tonight the weather looks to be better an Memphis will be able to put up 4 or 5 TDs on Temple, if they do...tempe will have no answer, they just don't have the talent to keep up in a high scoring game. Its just not in the cards.
I see the line at 7.5 and know that the oddsmakers are looking at the 7.5 like a fish hook for the casual Friday college better. Since temple played ECU on ESPNU last week, the public will have a higher opinion of Temple...in addition temple got some national press for just beating a ranked team...so the national opinion will be that the owls are scrappy...and getting 7.5 at home will look attractive enough to bite on,
The line should probably be 7, but the books added the half make sure there was no doubt that the public would take Temple at home...to me it looks like fly trap.
Memphis should roll past the owls...who are improving....but can't beat this Memphis team with tom foolery alone.
I Played Memphis Tigers (-6.0) bought (1.5)
Play of the year & book max bet of 10,000
