All the college previews are down on OU, but still rank them in the top 20. I do believe this is a somewhat rebuilding year for them...but, aren't these things normally counter intuitive...BGB, or Big Game Bob, either a compliment or a misnomer depending on one's perspective, is a good game day coach, that at times gets the most out of his players...is it possible, that maybe OU's problems of the past were prima donna football players, like Wort or McFarland or Stills or some of those freaks in the secondary, who, granted had good game stats, but did not gel as a team in did not provide the necessary on field leadership. I guess you could say that has been the problem with my longhorns as well since 2010. Is it possible that by the time they play Texas and definitely in late October through November, OU could come together and be a workhorse ATS for all of us...I will go out on a limb and all of you, my fellow degenerate college football junkies can call me out if I am wrong, that from their Oct 19 game @ Kansas through the Bedlam Game with Ok St on Dec 7, OU will be a force ATS and cover @ Kansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State, @ Kansas State and @ Ok St...I left out Baylor due to the unknowns with their D and QB (I think both will be improved).
In summary, I think OU may struggle early both straight up and most certainly ATS, but after the Texas game, I think they will do very well for their backers and themselves...

Just read the Oklahoma preview, and I have to say your outlook is not realistic. Looking at the schedule, Okla looks strong at home, but on the road, they will hit a few roadblocks, and ATS, I am really not feeling it. I think Texas might be a better choice, in fact I would be on their bandwagon as far betting ATS, etc. BIG 12 will very very rough this year. The team that wins the conference might have 2 losses.

Well hoosier i hate to be the jacka$$ of the week but i guess i will have to be that. I'm not high on Texas i think Mack Brown is desparate i think he should've been fired a couple years ago. i think the entire Texas athletic program under Dodds is underacheiving. Football underacheiving. Basketball made the CBI because you're Texas and a baseball program that disappointed.
I think Texas athletics is underacheiving. And since after LY a majority of Texas fans were fine with a 9 win year come august i will give Texas a 9 win year again. Hell Brown is changing his philosphy and offense adn it reeks of panic
But thats my 2 cents
As for Oklahoma they're a public team and many are disappointed in how they've played. I think Stoops has underachieved in the last 7-8 years. I do like the Belldozer at qb and i see them winning 8-9 games as well. I think the big 12 this year all the teams will beat up on each other.

thanks for the perspectives...the slaughter at the hands of texas A&M surprised me...
honestly, I am bored and I want Aug 29 to get here soon...
I agree with you on texas...maybe my homer backing of my horns is just delusional "hope"...if saban or someone like him were the coach at texas right now, we would probably be ranked among the best college football teams ever...mack brown seems to be complacent...his end game prima facie appears to be highly variable...either he will win a nc and exit stage left...or he will have another 2010 and everyone in the longhorn national will be calling for his ouster...even the hated aggies are feeling good about themselves (at least until the SEC D's figure out J. Football "Mr. looks like he is 50 years old" manziel, and they exploit A&M's weak D...this has nothing to do with the Aggies...Mack has done a lot for UT after the departure and debacle that was "King John" Makovic. But, he to this day continues to make a lot of excuses for Texas underperforming...he needs to trade some of the CEO BS, for some fool* pissed off mantra with accountability from his players that the "only" metric at Texas is to win National Championships...

do NOT like the Sooners at all this season ... Thinking these publications have them ranked high to sell their Mags ... The schedule is Brutal and 7-5 or worse S/up could happen ... ATS i will be fading ....
Looks Like a 3-0 S/up start and then the wheels could come off
BEST OF HEALTH, HAPPINESS,WEALTH, BLESSINGS and LUCK TO ALL !!

*tough / close win over ULM......? (doubt that check what ULM did LY....and Sooner's shaky at times in this spot) *ditto vs WV and Tulsa *at N Dame probable close loss but cover *holy crap watch out for TCU with Texas on deck *probable (?) loss to Texas
BUT.....then at 4-2 or even 3-3.......
reasonable fav at Kansas....smallish HF vs Tech (5-2 or 6-1)....small fav or even dog at Baylor....ditto at KSt and Okie St
Problem?.... *with 'your' Horns......Sooners.....and the stinkin' Dallas Cowboys......while we're ripping local favorites.....
They are SOFT...... < that's p u s s y pink
Mack being one of last CEO type head coaches (since Paterno gone)....Stoops seems to make life very comfortable for his boys.....and Jerry..................
All weak D....nice/sweet OL (Sooners not bad here)...blocking and tackling clearly not big priorities...
OU defense has gotten worse every year since '09 *last year vs winning teams?.....#91 total D...#117 vs the run....#89 on 3rd down...... Texas #88 total wtf....#77 vs the run....and both with several GUTLESS efforts on their resume.....
Big 12 is down this year.....so both with a chance to bounce back.....especially Texas.....but I would make them PROVE it...before risking hard earned cash....
*you're right .....Saban (or Jim Harbaugh)...takes over ANY of the 3....they kick azz in a short amt of time...
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

Man, I was on Oklahoma over 10.5 season wins last season and looked like a complete azz.
Not sold on Texas or OU this season...it seems like every other team in the Big 12 is scoring boatloads of points, and these boys need to pick up the defense where it used to be.

I'm an OU fan, but much more of a football fan in general. With that said, OU will probably have some growing pains this year. But I wont be surprised if they come out & win a lot of games that most are saying they will lose. Bob does good when his back is against the wall & people count him out. & having a handful of new, youthful coaches will do nothing but help as well IMO. They will miss Landry....but Blake Bell is a much better leader & has a "Tebow" to him (as much as I hate to say it). If he can throw the ball accurate, then he could be a force.
Honestly, saying that OU will go 7-5 or 6-6 is pretty laughable, & I respect Double Up. But this is OU we are talking about....just b/c they lost players, doesnt mean that they have no talent. If the books want to come out w/ OU's wins/losses at 7.5 then I will be a happy camper.

I agree. If you think OU is going 6-6 you are dreaming. It's not going to happen..Because of his loyalty to his coaches, it has never been easy for a person like Stoops to make changes. But when he does, I guarantee you he's up making some major changes. By the way, this new blood on the staff is pretty good. They've brought a renewed energy to a part of OU's game that seriously needed upgrading, the lines. I'll have more on OU later because I'm pretty close to the program. Just don't count on the same old Landry Jones type of offense, or even what you saw in the Spring Game. Also, if your counting on the Big 12 conference race to be a continuation of what you saw last year, I think you are going to be in for a surprise. I don't think it will look anything like it did last year.

Landry "Choker" Jones leaving is probably a good thing. He could always be counted to on add a few more TD passes when leading comfortably by 21 or more points
Not so great in the clutch against well coached defenses like K State, ND, TAMU.
Choker Jones for Choke-lahoma leaving is addition by subtraction.

Bell was a five star qb out of high school and extremely athletic. I believe he can throw. I am not sure about his NFL potential or throwing motion. he may throw like a girl or worse yet, like Tebow, but I think he has the leadership capabilities, athletic ability and a good arm to lead OU to victory...

I'm not saying Bell will be a superstar or anything. I'm just saying he is an absolute leader and very vocal.....and if they have a bad year, it will most likely be bc of other positions on the team.

I think Bell could have a great year. But it may not make a difference. We'll just have to see how their rebuilding defense plays out during the season. It doesn't happen often, but it seems like every time Texas is predicted to win the conference OU has an off season. Like in 2005 when Texas won the MNC OU went 8-4 and in 2009 when Texas won the conference OU went 8-5. OU was actually 6-5 that year before pulling out their last two games including their bowl game over Stanford. So if you think OU isn't capable of a bad year you would be wrong. It happens to everybody not named Alabama. The teams who usually win the Big 12 are the teams who can run the ball and play solid defense. That's why Klein and KSU were successful last year, and OSU and their ace RB Randall the year before. But Randall left early for the NFL and is gone for OSU this year. And he was a difference maker. So I'm kind of suspicious of the Pokes this season. The best combination of defense and running games will probably come from Texas and TCU. So I would have to make those teams the frontrunners.

I actually think their d backs will be better this year, even though they lose 3 starters. Mike stoops is getting his players in there and he can coach d backs with the best of them.
D line is pretty much the biggest question mark on the team....and it's a HUGE one. Especially if JUCO AA DT Russell doesn't make it to campus. Their other top recruit has to go to JUCO for academics, so he won't be on campus. Their d line is in shambles, and that's why you saw stoops fire coaches over the offseason
