Call me crazy, but I think the Johnnies win this game. Duke is usually the team that sets the tone physically against their opponent, but that won't be the case this evening. Dukes guards are all underclassmen. Hell the whole team aside from Maliq Brown is a underclassmen, but young guards can be a real problem in big time games vs big time pressure like the Johnnies bring. They have experience everywhere you turn, and especially on the sideline.
1* UCONN Huskies -1.5
Sparty usually is going to win the rebound war, but tonight I don't think they do. Tarris Reed has been a man on a mission. He has 40 rebounds through two tournament games. Alex Karaban is a match up problem for Izzo too. Do they guard him with Carr and be undersized, or Scott, and risk the youngster being taken to the woodshed by the two time national champion? I like the guards of UCONN better here too. Demary will be tasked with keeping Fears out of the lane, where he is so good at finding teammates from, and I think he can do it. Lastly, aside from Reed, late in a close game, you can send anyone else to the line and have no fear.
1* Iowa St Cyclones -3.5
If you've been following all year, you know how much I love this Cyclones team. Sounds like Jefferson is going to give it a go, I'm not sure in what capacity, but again, I don't think it matters much. Ament is going to have size on him, whether its Momcilovic, Jefferson, or Buchanan. If you can stop him, you can stop the Vols. Lipsey matches up perfectly with Gillespie too. Rick Barnes is well known for not being able to win big games, and hasn't taken Tennessee to an Elite Eight. He's outcoached, but his team is also out matched.

Tennessee fan and alum here. I hope I'm wrong, but I do believe Tennessee gets waxed tonight with or without Jefferson. Ament looks like his is lacking confidence in both his ankle and his ability. He is playing like a freshman, although he did have a decent 2nd half against Virginia. We do not handle close game situations well at the end of games either. Barnes actually made a bad joke after one of the games(probably Kentucky) something to the effect that if he didn't know better, he would think they are betting on the other team. I think Gillespie and Boswell will be the keys to a Tennessee victory along with the bigs shooting FT's.
My reason for this post, however, is that your information is dead wrong. Tennessee has been to the Elite 8 the last 2 years. They lost to Houston last year and Purdue 2 years ago. GL.

It's a valid point. That's why Caleb Foster potentially playing could be so huge, he's a junior, a big PG 6'5", can handle the ball and shoot 3's, 40%. If they can get 15-20 minutes out of him it would be big for Duke. Of course he may not play at all, we'll know tip off time. My guess is we see him on the court tonight. Good luck to you!

GL StL but how is St John's going to score? Duke locks everyone down and StJ is not a high scoring team unless they hit their 3's. Who is going to keep Cam from taking over? I guess Zuby will cover Cam and Mitchell will be on Evans, but who covers Foster if he plays. I don't think StJ wins but they will cover. It will be close all game but Cam will hit the free throws in the last 2 min for the win. 72-67 Duke. But you're right,at this point StJ or anyone can win in the sweet 16.

Youre not wrong about STJ offense getting stagnant when they have to play in the half court. I think Pitino speeds the game up, and tries to steal some points in transition.

My moppy-haired hero Ruben Prey went full gangsta in the final minute with a swished three from the corner to make it 39-37 and then another perfect shot from straightaway for the 40-39 lead with 11 seconds left.
I want to invite him to Las Vegas for a complimentary evening of hookers and blow.
That was a $34,200 swing, and I’ll admit I had the white flag waving at 35-28.
