Davidson +9.5: First game of tournament in South Carolina where Davidson will have a decided edge in fan support as their fans make the 3-hour drive to Charleston. Both teams come in at 5-0 despite having lost some key scorers. Wildcats have been getting significant contributions from 10-12 guys including guard transfers Sam Brown (Penn), Josh Scovens (Army), and Parker Friedrichson (Wake), and only one player in the rotation is averaging over 25 minutes per game. Davidson, like Richmond, was picked to finish in the lower half of the A-10, and both teams are no doubt playing with a chip on their shoulders. I like them to give a very good Utah State squad a battle, cover the spread and maybe even steal the outright win. 1 unit.

I think this IU-Indy - Air Force matchup is going to be interesting, with the fastest tempo team in the country taking on one of the slowest (Air Force 339th, KenPom). Air Force of course being at home for this tournament, and opened as 4.5 favourites after beating Alabama State and SIUE for their first 2 wins of the season. I still think Air Force is a real lousy team and I think this frantic, full-court pressing style by Indy will give them a lot of problems, as I don't think they have the ball-handlers to deal with it. On the other hand, not sure Indy will have the legs left to keep it up for an extended period. My guess is we get something in the middle, which still makes me lean slightly to Indy covering, but probably more towards the under 180.5. Still got some time to mull this one over so we'll see where the line goes in the next few hours.

I keep wondering WTF is going on with Furman. Picked to finish 2nd in the Southern, they got a very good coach in Bob Richey and have been a contending team for a few years now, but they've been underwhelming to say the least so far. Still no Div. 1 wins after getting torched by High Point at a neutral and Northern Iowa on road, and losing by a trey at home to Troy. Today favoured by 9 against a fast-paced Queen's team that has been very competitive so far. They got a couple of decent home wins and a 3-point OT loss to a very talented Duquesne team that returns a lot of starters and is probably a better team than Furman. I really want to take Queen's and the points but something tells me Richey has the Paladins pumped up for this home game and a chance to get going in the direction many 'experts' expected. Another in the 'we'll see' category.
