Many reasons but I will give you a few....
1. Ohio State is not better then Illinois. They are very similar in terms of caliber. This will be a close game IMHO.
2. Illinois may be the best road team in BIG along with MSU. they have beaten WISKY, MICH, PSU, PURDUE, NU on the road. They are not afraid to play on the road.
3. Illinois may have the best player on the court in AYO Dosunmu. He has been a killer in late game situations. This is clutch time of the season and big time players show up in these type of games.
4. Illinois has a chance to win or share a big ten title if they win today and sunday. Plenty of motivation. They will not lie down for this game.
5. Illinois beat OSU in Columbus last year with many of the same guys this year. Thet will not be scared or overwhelmed. Illinois was not even any good last year.
I can keep going. Many reasons. But that is why they play the games. Again, no I'll will towards anyone, wish everyone the best. JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION
