Cintron targets UFC titlist!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he doesn't want to battle a UFC champion. No problem. IBF World Welterweight Champion and former high school/college wrestling star Kermit Cintron would like to accept the challenge from UFC President Dana White, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Cintron, who will be defending his IBF crown against mandatory challenger Walter Matthysse on July 14 in Atlantic City, NJ, would like to battle the UFC champion following his June IBF title defense. "I want the fight," said Cintron. "I can wrestle. I can box. I can beat those UFC fighters at their own game. Tell Mr. White to make me an offer and I'll take on his guy after I fight Matthysse on July 14." Cintron (27-1, 25 KO's) captured the vacant IBF crown on October 28, 2006, when he destroyed Mark Suarez in six rounds (TKO 6). The 27-year-old Reading, PA resident by way of Carolinas, Puerto Rico once finished 10th at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships. As a senior in high school he was offered full wrestling scholarships to Wisconsin University and Ohio State University. The Cintron-Matthysse bout will serve as the co-feature to the Arturo Gatti-Alfonso Gomez contest. Main Events is promoting the July 14 evening of boxing, in association with The Tournament of Contenders, LLC and Caesars Atlantic City.

He was a very good collegiate wrestler, if he trained MMA, he would probably be damn good at it! This won't proof anything!

I read this on another forum! Did this really happen? If true, Dana White shouldn't accept his offer.
 
Kermit Cintron...Kermit Cintron...where do I know that name....OH! That's right. He was the guy who was reduced to a bawling crybaby after Antonio Margarito dismantled him on national television.

Cintron quit, yes quit, against Margarito, sitting down in the middle of the ring and refusing to stand back up because Margario was taking him apart. The guy has no heart.

He was bawling like a girl with tears down his face blubbering like the TUF guys have done this season.

Yeah, he'd fit right in on TUF.

But a real fight against any UFC champion would just see him reduced to a bawlbaby again after he gets his ass kicked.

If anyone wants to know the true heart of Kermit Cintron, watch his fight against Antonio Margarito, where he had a pink panty meltdown in the middle of the ring.

lol, this will be awesome.  Having just wrestling skills doesn't mean he can hang in MMA.  Kevin Jackson? olympic gold medalist in wrestling was submitted by an armbar within a minute.  That said, wrestlers tend to do well in MMA such as Randleman, Coleman, Koschek etc.

all that being said.... isin't Antonio Margarito supposed to be one of the most ducked boxers out there, pretty much one of the best. I think i even remember PBF not even wanting anything to do with him some time ago.

Could be 3 of the dumbest posts I have ever seen in here......if you really think a boxer could get into the octagon and have a chance you have lost your mind....now that being said the top ufc fighters would have little to no chance against the top flight boxers such as Maywhether.  Listen to the people who have done both and fought in both arena's you won't find a SINGLE ONE OF THEM who would give a boxer any shot against a top flight UFC fighter.

If you ever been hit with 4 oz gloves you would realize mother fuckas go to sleep!Your a Pot head(Refer) u prob never been in a boxing ring or the Octagon do your research. Dana White will not let this fight go it would be a marketing disaster when Cintron knocks the slow soft hitting Shreck out.

nice reply genius....close on the pot head reference dooknob, couldn't be further from the truth for what refer stands for. You obviously haven't spent much time watching the UFC.....wrestling scolarships huh ??? and that stacks up to Jijutsu black belts and their experience.......never mind forget it, I'll have the conversation with an intelligent individual and someone with a clue.....

This fight would prove nothing.  How the hell did this big debate even get started?  It's so fuckin' stupid.  These are two different sports.  All the participants in both sports are tough and athletic.  Some people would rather watch boxing, some would rather watch MMA.  My choice is MMA, that doesn't mean I think boxing sucks and every boxer takes it up the ass.  It simply means I would rather spend money on watching MMA rather than boxing. 
 
I'm from Mayweather's hometown and have followed his career pretty closely.  I used to make it a point to watch every one of his fights.  But as they became less and less entertaining, I lost interest.  He is being mentioned as perhaps one of the greatest fighters of all-time, and yet his fights are boring.  You will never see a UFC fighter being mentioned as one of the greatest of all-time and be called boring.

Read in an mma forum where they interviewed Cintron and he was more respectful, didn't seem to want to take the challenge.  It was probably just publicity for his boxing fight. 

Kimbo Slice the streetfighter in the videos floating around the net will be fighting Ray Mercer next month in MMA rules I think.  If you don't know who Kimbo Slice is, search his name in google and youtube.

I watched an interview with him today from his NJ press conference this week announcing the Gatti/Gomez, Cintron/Mathysse July HBO card he said that he would accept the Sherk challenge that Mayweather turned down.  He didn't say anything about not wanting to do it.

By the way, that card is going to be sick.

HBO is putting a triple header on that night (July 14th) from split sites.

From Atlantic City:
Walter Dario Mathysse/Kermit Cintron

Paul Williams/Antonio Margarito

Props to HBO for putting this card on and making up for their recent mismatches.

If Kimbo doesn't beat Mercer than I hope his internet tough guy image vanishes forever.  All those videos are of him fighting compete bums off the street and the one decent fighter he fought, Gannon, took him down.  If you can't beat a 46 year old retired boxer in Mercer who hasn't beaten a top 20 fighter since 1996 (Yes, 1996) then you are not a very good fighter.

I think all boxers are hesistant to step in the octagon. when they ink a deal , then i'll give them props. If someone wants to be the hero for boxing and prove that they can beat Sean sherk, be my guest. Saying it mean jack to me, because i know Sherk would take this fight anytime, anywhere. He'll ground and pound any of these boxers, and they'll turn their backs and he'll choke any of them out. Boxers are a bit ignorant about how much intelligence goes into MMA.

i have seen some boring chuck fights. the second chuck and horn fight was damn near unwatchable, and diego and kos's 2nd fight was just as bad.
 
btw it doesnt take but maybe 1-3 months to learn submission defense, and with a wrestling background and cintrons boxing ability, he would do alright in mma.

You're right, Kos v.s. Diego was very boring.  In fact, I told myself I wouldn't order another pay-per-view because of that fight, but here I am, anticipating Saturday's event and can't wait to purchase it and drink some beer and watch.
