NM.. I can't figure out how to PM here. Add a few 0's to the 4:3.
Also as usual my itchy fingers got the best of me - put to win 500 on green and to win 1k on Lamont. Wanted to hit the other brother for 500 too, but was following the Green fight, lost track of time and missed the line.

How did the people here have the Malignaggi / Ngoudjo fight? I was following a RBR because couldn't get the sopcast to come in, and some of the guys had it tied or Ngoudjo winning.
But, the people I respect (who DIDN'T have anything riding on Malignaggi) and all "professional" reports while having it a tough fight for Malignaggi, was a clear and comfortable enough win - as did 2 of the judges. So aside from the buzz in the 7th, it appears to be not quite as close as I first thought...

Yea.. He was buzzed in the 7th...but saying if Ngoudjo could of would of isn't really what I'm looking for. That's like saying if Paulie moved better he would of won every round. I'm talking about what really happened.

There were some really close rounds, and Ngoudjo had Malignaggi visibly shaken and wobbled in a couple of them. Personally, I would have given the closer rounds to Ngoudjo on the basis of him actually hurting Malignaggi with the punches. I disagree with Graham Houston's account of the fight on fightwriter.com, as Malignaggi abandoned the jab during the middle of the fight, so I don't see how Houston can praise him for winning rounds with it. I can see how a judge had it 115-113 for Malignaggi, but it easily could've gone the other way. The 117-111 score is not explainable, except for the fact that the fight took place in AC.

Thanks A2C. With the 3 judges and the press "judges" all scoring it for Malignaggi, and all the after-fight reports (haven't read Graham's yet, but I know he was actually calling for a relatively strong possibility of an upset...so if anything it would seem he'd be biased in that direction for the post fight writeup) having it for Malignaggi. I can't believe Ngoudjo won or that it was a hometown decision. I think TV can be quite deceptive sometimes. Especially if it's being watched through Sopcast.
That being said, I'll accept it was a close fight. Especially with Malignaggi being hurt a couple times. It certainly wasn't as solid a win as I'd of liked.

I watched it on Showtime in HD, so I had a pretty good view. I was cheering for Malignaggi because I had a fun parlay that included PM, and that could be one of the reasons I was critical of PM. But in all honesty, he didn't look that good. Ngoudjo was hurting him, and PM became afraid to go to the jab because Ngoudjo was countering it with a left hook that really seemed to shake PM. And the Showtime commentator (I think it was Bernstein) had Ngoudjo winning. Showtime has every incentive to back PM because of his plans to fight Dawson, so Bernstein had to really believe Ngoudjo was winning in order to score it that way...Also, at one point PM looked so wobbly, I thought he was gonna get taken out. But he held like a little bitch in order to get out of the round alive. And the ref was completely riding PM's nuts, as he kept threatening to take points from Ngoudjo even though PM was constantly initiating holds.

I pretty much agree with that assessment from my buddy, but I don't know if Malignaggi was ever in danger of being KO'd. Ngoudjo doesn't have much power, and I just thought Malignaggi looked a bit awkward at times.

Just read Graham's report... Seems he had it 115-113 for Malignaggi same as the one judge... Way to close for comfort. This has got to be the most nerve-racking fight I've ever put money on. Especially trying to follow it RBR at a boxing forum.

Assessments much appreciated. Sounds like it really was one to chalk up to the close call board. I'll have to watch this fight someday when I'm back to the western world.

It was really close, I figured 115-113 for Paulie. The Showtime announcers did seem a little slanted towards Ngoudjo, but Paulie easily won 4 out of the first 5. Alot of times the announcers and a rooting interest in the underdog (I had no action on the fight and was pulling a little bit for the upset) can make a fight appear closer than it was. However, the compubox numbers on boxrec were extremely close and Ngoudjo appeared to be throwing harder. Ultimately, the right guy won, but it wasnt easy.

I had it 115-114 for Paulie because I went with one indecisive even round, can't remember which one now. Very poor performance by Paulie, I really thought he was headed to the canvas in the 7th. He really didn't put combinations together and was content to jab and move. Herman should be kicking himself for not doing more and taking the belt. If Steve Albert ever mentions Willie Pep and Paulie M. in the same sentence again they should immediately take him off the air, that was a joke.
