Guzman weighs in 9 pounds overweight

But the fight is still on WTF? This fight is at 135 and Guzman comes in at 144 but they contuine with the fight.

 

I got money on Funeka and maynot have bet it had I known Guzman was going to be allowed to come in 10 pounds overweight.I bet a 135-135 pound fight not a 135 against 145 pound fight.This is stupid call the fight off and fine/suspend Guzman

My thoughts exactly

If Guzman weighs 150 or more tomorrow at 7am, the fight is off.  I'd root for that.

 

Kind of hard to gain 6 pounds in 12 hours when you been instructed to eat nothing dont you think?

Maybe he was 150+, and drained himself to get down to 144.  Then again, I'm stupid.

Guzman didn't make weight for the fight against Nate Campbell.. that never happened, and Funeka whipped him badly.. yet somehow was a draw.

Guzman has no desire to be in the ring, I've never seen a guy weight a FULL 9 pounds over the limit. That's a clear way out of a fight.

If the fight does go on (after the 7 am weigh in) I say Funeka wins this even easier!

As DannoDanger said they have an agreement  150 is the cut off.

Tomorrow night’s 12-rounder between Joan Guzman (29-0-1, 17 KOs) and Ali Funeka (30-2-3, 25 KOs) is still on – but it will not be for the IBF lightweight title, at least for one of the fighters. Earlier today, Guzman weighed in nine pounds heavy, at 144, while Funeka made weight at 135. A deal was struck between camps allowing the fight to go on – providing that Guzman does not weigh more than 150 lbs. tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. If Funeka defeats the overweight Guzman, he will also be allowed to bring the IBF lightweight title home to South Africa.

Guzman is such a disgrace to boxing, I can;t wait to see him get smacked around by Funeka tomorrow.

Funeka ITD +500 looks like its worth a shot to me. Guzman was not only 9 lbs overweight but he looked out of shape. If Funeka can keep the pressure on him and wear him down, I can see Guzman getting KO'd or just quitting on the stool

Fight seems like a go .. this article is a laugher, they blame the electric belt "Sauna Suit Failure".

Thanks rich yeah i agree he shouldn't be allowed to fight and hopefully they hit him with a hefty suspension after tonight.. Go Funeka

This morning he weighed in at 148 and Funeka weighed in at 143. 

 

And Rich, this also happened with him when he was supposed to fight Alex Arthur in 2008.  The original story from the Guzman camp was that they were having visa issues, but it came out that he was huge and wasn't going to be anywhere close to weight.

 

I hate very few fighters, but Guzman has been on my list for a while.  I was at his fight with Soto in Atlantic City, and I had the displeasure of sitting near his people.  His brother was out of control.  He was running around the ring like a lunatic screaming.  Security almost tossed him a few times.  And the fight was BORING with almost no action, because Joan was in full retreat for the last six rounds. 

I know they're strict with weight.. 9 pounds he might not have a reason to fight lol.
