Fight Day- Should They Weigh-In?

What are all the pros and cons of having weigh-ins on fight day? They say many match-ups could never take place if they kept fights the same day as weigh-ins. True, but often someone gaining 12-20lbs back with-in a day or so seems more dangerous and often less competitive. A fighter at his natural in shape weight is going to be at his best. Take Marvin Hagler for example as he average 159.5lbs. His heaviest ever was 163 (once) and his lightest was 155 (once). He had his first pro debut at age 18 and his last bout against Leonard he was 32. After a certain age (around 30) it is natural for fighters to go up in weight simply for the fact that your metabolism slows down and you can only burn so many calories and keep your strength so you end up adding muscle.

Who cares what the pros and cons are, just knock everybody out and you won't have to worry about it......

If they were to weigh-in the day of the fight, I think you would see fighters fighting at higher weight classes or  it would force a fighter that wants to fight say at 154 to have a walking around weight of 165-170. They would have to stay in shape in between fights to make and fight at the weight limit. I still think it is unfair for a fighter to re-hydrate 10-15 lbs come fight night only to see the other guy only gain 3-5 lbs. It may seem minor, but it is an advantage. No doubt about that.  It would make fights more interesting if they were to weigh in the same day. I would be fine with that.

Agreed. Many times to much weight gain in a day causes serious medical problems and in boxing your speed, work-output & stamina decrease to a point it is similar to old 15 rounds without the extra shots taken.
