2 world class champions and truly exceptional boxers who are both retiring today.
one sureshot hall of famer in Sugar Shane with tremendous offensive skills in his prime, and one guy, who for boxing purists, should be a hall of famer for his defensive prowess.
thanks for the memories to 2 great, great champions.

I wish Winky would have taken a different comeback fight. If he didn't fight someone with great pop and super young legs, there is no doubt he would have been in tough with more than a few of the top guys. Then again, Winky never backed down from a challenge his whole career..
I'm glad that I won't have to see Shane get brutalized like he did against Alvarez. That was uncomfortable to watch after a certain point. Great champions that gave the fans their best every time they stepped in the ring. An end to an era in a way..

Man when i was watching that fight on the May-Cotto undercard, that's exactly, i mean exactly how i felt....it was uncomfortable. I cringed, i felt bad, it was starting to feel sad. I did not want to see Shane go out getting beat up. I was texting with some buddies during that fight telling them "Shane, please walk away now before you take another pounding".
I'm glad he took a month off to think about it. That way you know it's not so knee-jerk.
I hope Winky's was not as much knee-jerk less than 48 hrs after the loss, but a part of thinks he was really thinking about this after the last two losses so he decided if he lost this fight he would call it a career, so he just knew right when the fight ended and Quillin got the win.

Winky is a great fighter and a defensive master and fought every fighter with the intent and 100% effort for every round! (Although his outburst after the Taylor fight did surprise me as Winky is a class act). Mosley's competition resume is probably the toughest if they did a ranking similar to the BCA bowl game selection. Unfortunately, he came for a paycheck against Manny, and against Mayweather he got shut-down after his sparkling second round and never attempted to try again. He fought both lbs-for-lbs #1's (or #1 and #2) on every list, but he didn't consider winning against Manny, and after round four against Mayweather he just went to survival. That's unfortunate because watching him verse Canelo, Cotto and Margarito he really brought it all. I think he was psychologically intimidated by Floyd and Manny, as it is clear against Canelo he is willing to give it everything.

gridironguy: TY. Keep the decent flow going while disregarding the garbage here and we can get some nice analysis, opinions and write-ups... leading to good discussions among new and veteran handicappers all debating different points. Thnx again.

Both should go to the Hall of Fame, good to see Shane call it a career, before he got hurt. Winky should have taken an easier comeback fight, but it is always hard for him to get fights.

If he took an easier fight an won, it was just prolong the inevitable... that his career is finished. What's the point of a future HOF fighter way past prime taking an easy fight to prepare for a tough fight. He won't learn anything, and he has been fighting long enough that ring rust can be shaken off in training because he is such a technical fighter (which is rare; if he was younger or other circumstances I would agree). It is better he realizes that he has declined greatly then win a fight, lose a tough fight, then confusion sets in with denial saying to yourself "I just had an off-night", and he fights again and does serious damage to himself. Good thought though CD & GL! Enjoy Pacquiao vs Bradley!

cd2010: What do you think regarding my previous post. I think it was better this way and let the man's mind know he is done regardless of the fact most great fighters never want to admit it's time to hang it up. Any confusion by a useless win prolongs and dangers the man. What you think?

He hasn't fought in 3 years and had a 2 fight losing streak (he got beat bad in both). He was also fighting at a weight class he hasn't faired all that good at, vs. a young hungry fighter looking to make a name. He could have been matched a little bit softer to get some momentum and confidence back.
