The battle for the Spotify USA #1 song ended with, predictably, the big names resolving at ‘Yes’ on the prediction markets.
There was thin value for backers of Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, but Future ended up surprising with a late surge during the month.
We look at the major winners on Spotify USA for May 2026 and see if there’s some early value going forwards.
Key Takeaways:
- Olivia Rodrigo carried over her April form: the singer rewarded ‘Yes’ traders with three separate #1 songs in May.
- Drake’s surprise album drop triggered a chart surge: The Canadian was an easy ‘Yes’ with over half a dozen hits that could have hit #1.
- Future was the late frontrunner: Don’t despair, value-hunters - Future’s spot on Ran to Atlanta earned him a market ‘Yes’.

Spotify USA #1 Song in May 2026: The Big Winners
Spotify USA #1: How the Winners Ended the Month on Song
Olivia Rodrigo | ‘Yes’ 85¢ | 85% chance
✅ Resolved: ‘Yes’
Olivia Rodrigo offered less risk-to-reward than other front-runners. Plus, she had already spent several days at #1 at the back end of April with her song, drop dead.
It took all of five days for Rodrigo to hit #1 with good 4 u.
Daily Spotify streams were around 687,000, according to tracking app, Kworb. Plus, she earned the accolade of having the biggest ever debut by a female act on Global Spotify.
Drake | ‘Yes’ 95¢ | 95% chance
✅ Resolved: ‘Yes’
Rapper Drake should have been an easy buy on 'Yes' at the start of the month. The Canadian star broke records, achieving over 58 million streams in just 24 hours as we headed into the first days of May.
By the time we tipped him, he'd jumped to 80%, and then 95%.
He is the first artist in history to go past the 130-billion Spotify streams mark. Plus, Drake’s Iceman dropped on May 15 – that was always going to bring him listens.
With just days to go until the end of the month, Drake had no fewer than six songs in the top 10. The odds alone of one of those hitting #1 were too great to pass up.
Drake topped it off with Make Them Cry. The song took over Spotify in late May, hitting 13.2m streams in a single day to illustrate the rapper’s dominance.
Ariana Grande | ‘Yes’ 94¢ | 94% chance
✅ Resolved: ‘Yes’
We backed Ariana Grande at 27% mid-month before she shot to 85% after news of her new album dropped.
With a few days to go until the end of May, you could still get a little value at 94%.
The American star releases her new album, Petal, in July. It was teased in April, with Grande posting several images from the recording studio on her Instagram feed.
That obviously ignited interest in the Wicked star’s back catalog as fans whetted their appetites for the big release. hate that i made you love me was the big #1 choice for Grande fans.

Value Picks: Where the Smart Money Went
Some of the value plays in Spotify's USA #1 prediction markets seemed too obvious to ignore. Let’s explore them a little to see where the smart money was won - or lost.
Taylor Swift | ‘No’ 95¢ | 95% chance
❌ Resolved: ‘No’
With Olivia Rodrigo and Drake locked, the solid value bet was Taylor Swift.
The Life of a Showgirl star was actually on the slide (down around 40 points) before value-hunters helped her rebound to 53¢.
Even if you're the biggest Taylor fan, this was ultimately a market to leave alone until June. Swift’s I Knew It, I Knew You is the big theme tune for the upcoming Toy Story 5, which hits theaters mid-June. That could send the song rocketing up the Spotify charts for the month.
Olivia Dean | ‘Yes’ 4¢ | 4% chance
❌ Resolved: ‘No’
Olivia Dean’s hit Man I Need has been one of 2026’s biggest hits. It has passed the one-billion-stream mark on Spotify this year, and the singer picked up Best New Artist at the Grammys.
Dean’s summer tour mostly consists of UK arena dates, plus she had a #1 single duetting with British singer, Sam Fender.
However, that wasn’t enough to justify our value pick at 4%, even if you bought and sold at 8%.
Michael Jackson | ‘Yes’ 2¢ | 2% chance
❌ Resolved: ‘No’
OK, our big leftfield bet backfired a little, but not for want of trying.
Jackson has been back in the news, with the biopic Michael getting attention (both good and bad).
Despite the lukewarm publicity, it certainly put Jacko back in the spotlight for Spotify USA #1 traders.
Jackson’s back catalog put in a decent effort in May, as Billie Jean broke into the top 10 on Spotify. Beat It, Human Nature, and Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough all made up the running but didn’t reallyt trouble the top 5.
Could Jackson repay our faith in June? Check out our next preview to find out.
Looking Ahead to June 2026
The Spotify USA #1 market is sewn up for May 2026. Here’s how to get ahead on the June #1 Spotify USA markets.
The big TikTok rumor is that Beyoncé will drop a new album before the month is out.
Act III is the highly-anticipated final instalment of Beyoncé's trilogy, with - if you believe the rumors - a rock vibe. Even more specifically, Act III will feel and sound like Tina Turner. Will it be simply the best?
Beyonce's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, already called the rumors "fake" in a series of social media posts. However, others on TikTok claim to have "insider knowledge" about the release.
Reading the 'Songs of Summer 2026' Buzz
Interestingly, you can let Spotify do some of the hard work for you.
The streaming platform issues its 'Songs of Summer' predictions every May. Spotify’s global editors offer up a few tips to help you make the right trading picks.
Ultimately, summer is all about vibes: think waves, kicking back on the beach, and soaking up rays.
How does that translate into predicting the Spotify USA #1 Song for June, July, or August?
- Dancefloor fillers and samples: check out anyone bringing back some retro vibes. That includes Jamaican (Bam Bam) from HUGEL & SOLTO, that samples early ‘80s sounds from the Caribbean. It’s a trick used by Kanye West, among others.
- A summer of Country: Ella Langley secured a ‘Yes’ for anyone buying her on the May prediction markets. Choosin’ Texas is tipped to continue its success as we head into the hot weather. Two chart-toppers in two months?
- A summer of soccer fever: the FIFA World Cup kicks off this month, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Look for songs with a local flavor this summer, such as Kacey Musgraves’ Mexico Honey.
- Don’t forget the tried-and-tested: as well as Ella Langley, consider doubling down on other proven songs like Olivia Rodrigo’s drop dead.
Using Kworb to Stay Ahead of the Spotify Pack

Strategic Considerations for Spotify USA Traders
Looking to get ahead of the pack on Spotify odds? Here are four ways you can streamline your profits:
- Is anyone gearing up for a world tour?: several names on our prediction markets list are touring this summer. That pushes up interest, not only in new releases, but in existing back catalogs too.
- Check TikTok feeds early: short-form video on TikTok is key to pushing users to Spotify USA. Check out artists’ TikTok feeds to see if there has been a promotional push.
- Get out while you can: the Spotify odds book on a US streaming #1 closes on May 31. That gives you time to leverage your position if you’re confident but you sense another artist gaining traction.
- Hunt the big career chart-toppers: Rapper Future shocked everybody after a late surge with a song that's nearly 10 years old. Age is irrelevent for Spotify listeners, however. In fact, Future has over 210 songs that have hit the US Billboard Hot 100. That's third behind only Drake and Taylor Swift.
Spotify USA #1 Odds: FAQs
The winner in the Spotify US #1 song market was the artist who was in the top spot at any point during May. Spotify verified the outcome before the market resolved. For instance, if Ariana Grande was #1 in the US on streams, even for a day, the market resolved to ‘Yes’. Therefore, there could have been multiple ‘Yes’ resolves during the same month.
Of course. Spotify markets can be volatile as songs get traction through the month. However, you always have the option of selling your position if you have secured a profit. For example, if you trade a ‘Yes’ on Olivia Rodrigo at 65¢ as she builds up some steam, you can sell at 85¢ to lock in profit.
Absolutely. Prediction markets like Kalshi offer a range of Spotify odds for monthly and yearly outcomes. The long-term prediction market on Top Artist on Spotify This Year resolves on December 31. That gives you plenty of options to close out your position well before December arrives. You can also trade on related markets, such as #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
