What is betting juice?

The vigorish – also known as vig or juice – is the price sportsbooks charge for making a bet. The most common vig used for each side of a wager is -110. That means for every $1.10 wagered, the bettor can win $1.

Betting juice example

Team A is a 7-point favorite over Team B with the vig on both sides set at -110. Bettors can either wager on Team A -7 (-110) or Team B +7 (-110). If $100 was wagered and the bet won, the bettor would net $91 in profit.

Sportsbooks will adjust the vig on certain sides of a bet depending on win probability or the amount of money wagered on one side.

For example, Team A -7 may be drawing more money than Team B +7 and the sportsbook will try to balance the amount of money wagered on either side by adjusting the vig. They could move Team A -7 from -110 to -115 and Team B +7 from -110 to -105. If $100 was wagered on Team A -7 (-115) and the bet won, the bettor would net $87 in profit. If $100 was wagered on Team B +7 (-105), the bettor would net $95 in profit.
