Royals vs Mariners Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Today's MLB Game

The Royals are a pesky team. They make a ton of contact and irritate opposing pitchers. With the Mariners trotting Bryan Woo out for just his first start since a forearm injury forced him out of action, KC could see the bullpen plenty.

My analysis

This three-game series between the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners has been solid. It has been marked by decent pitching and timely hitting, and I expect more of this in their series finale.

Royals starter Alec Marsh has terrific away numbers; the righty has scattered 11 hits with 14 strikeouts across 17 1/3 frames. That has resulted in a 2-0 mark for Marsh, and Kansas City is 3-0 when the 26-year-old righty makes an away start.

Marsh has been terrific against lefties, using a four-seam/curveball combo, and he handles righties rather effectively with his slider/sinker combo. He’s been more effective against left-handed lumber but is above-average against righties, and he’ll see a bunch of strikeout-prone right-handed bats today.

Seattle plans for righty Bryan Woo to make his second start of the season. Woo looked good before suffering some forearm tightness and exited after 62 pitches. He scattered one hit with three strikeouts without surrendering an earned run through 4 1/3 frames but meets a good-hitting, low-strikeout bunch of lumber from Kansas City, and they will get him today.

Piecing together a couple of runs at a time is how teams beat Woo, which is exactly what the Royals do. They don’t create many runs against righties (wRC+95), but they look to make contact, have huge power from both sides of the plate, and find ways to score by stealing bases (35) while hitting .241 with runners in scoring position.

Finally, Woo has a history of arm tightness following stints on the IL. The tightness could shorten his stint, and the Royals will scratch out a couple of runs before he exits with Marsh junk-balling his way through the strikeout-prone Mariners lineup. The Royals bullpen ranks 10th in holds (27) with fewer blown saves than Seattle and is more trustworthy in holding a lead.

Kansas City sneaks out of Seattle with a win today.

Royals vs Mariners same-game parlay (SGP)

Royals moneyline

Salvador Perez 1+ hit

Vinnie Pasquantino 1+ hit

Royals DH Salvador Perez has hits in three of his last five and is hitting .326 with 15 hits across 46 away bats against righties. He’ll be good for a hit, as will teammate Vinnie Pasquantino.

Woo has always struggled against left-handers, and Pasquantino has recorded a hit in seven of his last 10. The Royals lefty has a couple of home runs and 10 hits this season against home righties, so he should get one hit today.
