#4 Posted: 1/24/2012 8:33:20 PM Yeah seeing how they shutdown megaupload the other day I don't see anything stopping them from shutting down these offshore books that accept money from Americans...don't know if you can really relate the two, but the government is definitely putting a end to illegal internet activity...

I'm not saying this post is accurate or it isn't, I have no idea. In fact it does sound a little fishy, that's why I asked what book.
But I can tell you first hand that the secret service DOES have a department that handles counter fit money and I'm guessing also bank fraud, so to say they have the authority to monitor bank wires doesn't seem like that much of a stretch.
I can also tell you that any bank wire over I believe $3,000 is supposed to be reported to the federal government if it seems suspicious and every bank wire over $10,000 has to be reported to the proper regulatory agency.
Just FYI.

#15 Posted: 1/25/2012 4:00:58 PM I may be dating myself here, but I'm picturing a scene out of X-files where Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek played the parts of Men In Black looking and acting all bad behind to some scared behind dude.
I just picture the stream of piss going down this guys leg as he's hauled into SS custody over his MAJOR windfall.
Truth be told, this thread should more appropriatly say I wired some dude 7K in Costa Rica for child porn should I be worried about the SS.

Sitting around thinking up garbage like this to post is the reason why 1) there is someone at your door, and 2) it's not the secret service u loser. |

#17 Posted: 1/25/2012 6:41:34 PM I've done numerous four figure bank wires to my Bookmaker & DSI accounts, never had a problem with secret service knocking on my door. If they did, I simply wouldn't answer the door. |

Playboy,
I don't doubt your post one bit. The US federal government has a huge task force dedicated to stopping internet gambling and their crosshairs are on bookmaker.whatever they change it to next.
Reason for this is the way they keep soliciting new business. I get a weekly call from them and I haven't used them in over a year. Talking about crazy bonuses etc.. The phone number is from Florida, not Costa Rica.
I think they should be focusing on the other two things, child porn and terrorism, but they need some more funds to fight those things so what better way than to steal money from bookmaker through their US processors.
5 dimes, heritage, etc... need bookmaker to stay around or they are next. |

Not true they do investigate monetary crimes. I a car dealer and sold a car and was paid in counterfeit money. They came a calling.
The Secret Service usually works criminal cases that are related to the nation's financial security. The Secret Service was originally founded in 1865 to suppress counterfeit money and while the agency still spends a lot of time investigating counterfeit money both in the United States and overseas, today's agents also investigate a variety of other financial crimes, including credit card fraud, computer fraud and bank fraud. Even though the Secret Service now relies on computers to help carry out these investigations, agents still go out and ask questions of victims, witnesses and suspects because talking with people is one of the best ways to tell whether people are telling the truth.

Answer these question then....
1. Why the hell would they have to come to your door to ask if you were gambling? If it was the secret service and they really wanted to know, they already would.
2. Did they just ask the question and then leave? What the hell would be the point of that? How does that help them build a case?
