Rand Paul 2016

Question

I hardly ever watch O&#x27;rielly, but I heard Rand Paul was on so I watched the interview.  I think it is pretty clear that he is running in 2016 absent some enormous gaffe or catastrophic event. Nobody in the Republican party is going to stand a chance in a primary with this guy,  he has Campaign for Liberty, AND Romney&#x27;s election machine behind him.  It looks as though Glenn Beck is going to be behind him, and O&#x27;reilly.  As far as Christie, does anyone think that he is electable?  He is another liberal RINO,  no different in the end from Romney. Don Juan will probably agree (as an expert on women) that he will lose the woman vote.  I only bring him up because he is talked about so often.  He has taken the lessons of his father and given up the radical pose for the radical ends.  Rand Paul, would be a perfect answer for Obama.

Rand Paul?&#xD;&#xA;The same Rand Paul who opposes closing Guantanomo Bay, calls Iran a dangerous threat to the Middle East including making the statement that no option should be off the table with Iran including nuclear weapons. &#xD;&#xA;Opposes same sex marriage, domestic partner benefits, and any abortion.&#xD;&#xA;I can see him doing well with moderate America.

hes a lock now that the bishop and pope of the GOP party have crowned their candidate...When you ask if christie is electable, it could be said that with the GOP presidential candidates fighting for nomination you suddenly had a large surge of excitement wanting christie to run as it appears that the GOP base felt that he was a better choice then anyone they tried to sell us as being a serious candidate...Rick,who would rank as the GOP top 5 in 2016 and where is the cut off for a candidate that the general public would even take seriously?

He also has no problem rightfully calling out members of his own party for playing politics. &#xD;&#xA;I enjoy watching the far right wing extremists call him a RINO though. Just shows how out of touch they and their party actually are.

I am not concerned with social issues. I believe gays should be able to do whatever they want and if a governing body has to decide who can proceed with the sacrament of marriage, I would prefer it to be individual churches, but since that is to radically right for you, I will agree that it is better left to the states than the Federal govt. Just as Rand Paul, Just As Barry Obama.

Also, I hate abortion, I think it is morally reprehensible, I believe that late term abortions are barbaric and should be illegal, but aside from that, I have a hard time telling a woman that she can't kill the baby inside her if she wants to. Just because I believe that it is murder, does not mean that my belief should be the final law. We live in a Republic with laws, but many things are open for public opinion, and the public loves abortion, so it stays. Man...... that radically right wing position is the same as the current law, supported by most liberals.

Gov. Christie may be on the acceptable end of the RINO spectrum, I just see him as an unashamed opportunist that has no real ideology.

DJ, I think I asked you in a thread ( and you may have answered ).  What makes me so radical.  I am not claiming to be a libertarian, but do you think that they are "radical"

Rand Paul is for the Federal Defense of Marriage Act.

As more and more states allow for same sex marriage, the Federal Government will have to become involved in some capacity. Absent that, it will become a nightmare as certain states recognize a union and others do not.

As we are seeing, more and more Americans are in favor of happy marriage.

And the abortion issue is problematic as well, as more and more Americans are opposed to the types of restrictions that Republicans support.

These issues, separately, probably are not going to determine electability, but when you add them along with others that divide the electorate (climate change, welfare reform, social security, middle east, gun control etc.) and you are consistently taking an absolutist position, you are going to alienate the swing voters. That is Rand's problem.

Rand Paul is not electable in 2016. At least right now he isn't. But 3 1/2 years is a long time. Anything can happen. Right now a Christie-Rubio ticket looks like a winner. Republicans that can actually carry their own home States.

Marco Rubio is a natural pick for 2016.  Republicans know they need to make serious headway with a rising Hispanic Vote .. and he has Tea Party Roots to appeal to the fiscal conservatives.

The Rhino wing of the GOP has basically taken over The Grand Old Party and kicked out the Elephants. .they are now The Rhinoceros Party with no clear head of the party.

..and because there are so many RINO's they don't have a unified party platform to present to the voters .. this will have to change if they are going to win ..and they will have to address the way they select their candidate in the primaries ..plus they will have to stop pretending like they don't need the Tea Partiers anymore.

If, they were to at least do these things.. they would have a chance in 2016 ..esp after 4 more years of Obama, because the Obama voters haven't felt it yet ,,but they will sooooon.

considering recent history and trends...  how do the GOP make headway with hispanics?  I get what needs to be done... but I dont see how they will accomplish this goal or at least stop the bleeding...  I think it would actually be a better strategy at this point to just stop doing what they are doing to turn off hispanic voters if there is no clear or feasible strategy to attract hispanics

I like really like your perspective there... I dont always agree with your views but can say that with your history of posts I respect how you think...especially because you come from a real legal background...so I an see the difference between having a a strong view and choosing that it must be dictated and imposed as the law on the final word
