Which if you are actually concerned about the safety of people in school, is a good reccomendation.
Why? Because Police and other first responders arrived on scene about 20 minutes after the first calls in the Sandy Hook school shooting.
Note: when one of these events happens and your first response it to call for banning guns, or more gun laws, when you have no clue how the shooter obtained the weapons or what type of weapons they were, you're an ideologue. And, frankly, not that bright.

i remember in school they had those kids who put on the bright orange jacket and volunteered to help direct traffic at the school and help the little kids out of their cars. what we need to do is get guns and maybe some hand grenades to those kids. they were usually more responsible than everyone else.

I am for it because I'm sure before any school district did this they would train the people. They won't just give some teacher a pistol who never fired a gun before. They would be trained by an instructor. They would receive lecture, take a written test, and spend hours at the range before being armed. Security measures would have to be put in place so some student wouldn't be able to get their hands on it but I'm interested in what they could do.

You will hear arguments against this.

Actually, there is the solution.
The older kids in the school who are performing well should get to carry concealed weapons. Do you think it will fly?

like police are trained. you guys need to see some cases where police fire shots in these situations. it woukld be comical if it wasn't soo pathetic. or maybe talk to some police range instructors about how many of them can't pass a simple shooting test firing at paper targets. those are the most highly trained and they are horrible. i'm sure a teacher grading a spelling test one second and faced with one of these situations in the next second will be on point though.

I have talked to a school administrator said that a perpetrator of a rape and hostage situation that had told him he had bypassed a the primary school facility and targeted a satellite office that he knew was unprotected. I don't doubt that having some kind of armed presence would dissuade the lone gunman, who tends to be a bullied, weak-minded individual from profile reports. But I doubt it would stop a coordinated Columbine style assault. These kind of perpetrators might actually see it as a challenge and raise the ante. I think the danger here is that -- like military planning -- we are fighting the last war rather than planning for other contingencies.

So, the teachers who are villified for not spending enough time on lesson plans are sent for gun training.
And despite never facing a real life situation (you really cannot train for that), no doubt they will display heroic actions to save everyone in the school.
And we can also safely presume that the shooter, despite spending hours, days, years in preparation and detail, won't know who has the gun and be able to act accordingly.
I mean, what on Earth could go wrong with this?

No no.
You missed part two of the plan.
Replacing foreign history, each day the children will spend an hour in preparation for such an event, much like a fire drill or duck and cover. They will learn to be completely silent. To allow for them to feel the real life experience, dummys will have their brains blown away at close range for real life effect.

Why stop there? Don't we need to arm/train the mall employees, theater people...etc? Eventually, we have to arm/train everyone since we all have a fundamental right to protect ourselves and in the process, might prevent the next masscare, right?

still better than announcing to the world that it's a gun free zone. Do you hold the mother responsible for this incident??

the school where the shooting took place was a "gun free zone". That means you know have some free time to do some damage until the cops show up. Again, i will take the 60 yr old deputy riding out his time until retirement over nothing.
The mother was an irresponsible gun owner who did not keep her guns locked up from a child with special needs. She alone is to blame. All it would have taken is a combination gun safe and we would never be discussing this tragic situation.

captain, i certainly agree with a gun free zone to the extent that it's a school, playground, park or similar place and the kids can't have weapons there. but if the gun free zone means there can't be a security guard with a gun, then it does sound more like an advertisement for an easy place to commit a violent crime.
a lot of places would charge the mother with a serious crime if she left a gun out for a fucked up kid like that and something bad happened. they'd do it in a heartbeat here. i wouldn't argue with that.
but on the other hand, the pro-gun people should be against charging the mother with a crime. any pro-gun people know why?

I agree. The problem is a lot gun owners(including the thread starter) don't believe the govt. has the right to tell them how to store their guns in their own homes. These people seem to be arguing for the other side with their logic.

So.. HitDaRoad, you are suggesting escalating, rather than regulating... that doesn't make a lick of sense. Next thing you know, it will be rocket lauchers, then genades, and then why not tanks ?
Let's all get a Abrams tank in our driveway, don't think we need a background check for them ! That way if someone messes with me.. I'll get in my turret, rotate that sucker, load a few shells, blow his head off.. And maybe shoot a few deer..squirrels, elehants , even a group of minority's.
Makes about as much sense as your Robney, Bush rants.

that wasn't meant for a pacifist like you. i'm going to let that question sit out there for a little bit and i'll respond at some point/
so, the question is, to the NRA members among us, assuming the mother left these guns out for her severely mentally handicapped kid to take and shoot up the school, why should she not be charged with a crime?

You people coming up with arguments against this are looking at it the wrong way.
We don't necessarily have to train teachers at schools or movie theatre employees to do the job. We would be training security or law enforcement officers. Because this may be public property (schools) the politicians may have to ask everyone's taxes go up a few dollars a year to pay for these people. After Sandy Hook I would imagine most people wouldn't mind. If it is private property like a mall then they should start training their officers to carry. Don't come back with some incompetent rent-a-cop statement because if they are incompetent then they shouldn't get the job.

Notice the strawmen and lack of seriousness.
I am utterly shocked by this.

i wouldn't be opposed to having an armed security guard at a school if the school wanted one. i'm not sure it's a great idea but i'm not sure it's a bad one either.
