I think more special ops are the way to go. There is no end game and no final victory with Afghanistan. Terrorism will never be radicated. Unfortunatley we have porous borders that can easily be expolited by terror groups. Withdraw from Afghan, use CIA, Black Ops whatever to monitor them, secure our borders and keep some dough to pay off the debt or whatever.
War is ugly and I wish the world was more peaceful but there is a target on our backs from both friend and foe so we need to keep our guard up.

this is an underappreciated point. we spend billions of dollars and thousands of lives allegedly protecting ourselves from terrorists all the way across the world yet we don't do much to secure our borders and any asshole can walk across the border or drive a van across the border from mexico. i guess there just isn't as many votes and money in securing the border.

Sounds like you agree with the special ops strategy that obama has been employing... less "pomp and circumstance" and attention.. but still addressing the issue...
I think that Bush Sr was labeled a wimp because he didnt have the same saber rattling that bush jr did... and seemed more conservative in how he utilized american military resources and lives..
I know some far left liberals that are extremely disappointed with the obama special ops/drones strategy as they feel like he portrayed himself as someone that would bring peace...
But just because obama may have portrayed peace does not mean that others would simply take the target off of our back... We are still in the crosshairs and need to address the issue but with less spending...

yes, I agree with Obama's strategy with do more with less. I also believe in R&D for the military. We should be able to denoate IED's with a microwave burts or some other method. I dont agree with HUGE cut backs in the military budget but I do agree we should take a look at our needs and not pull back too far on our capabilities. China will be a foe for years to come and I dont think they will play nice. We need to have better equipment and capabilities than they do. Unfortuantely, he who has the biggest stick wins.

I think huge cut backs in the military like ALL cutbacks should not be made as a knee-jerk emotional reaction to spending/debt... but I think looking at being more innovative to be more effective and at the same time decrease the amount of money, resource and lives is what I would call progress and in turn could make us both safer and less of a cost...

It could be said that the "smoke screen" of the "war on terror" against the "axis of evil" not only enabled the reckless blank check spending but deterred attention from China who spent the 21st century so far becoming more powerful...
