Why the hell are there unions for government workers? No wonder Calif is suffering.

They went through this back when Clinton was first in office and similar things happened..government worker unions caused a stink.

It makes me think that the unions would rather the workers lose their jobs than to do what is necessary to keep their jobs.

I love how the legislature passes a spending bill that only deals with 20% of the budget deficit and then gets mad when the gov tries to take more drastic measures before the roof caves in.

Arnold needs to make these clowns famous, shame them into getting a clue.  Every single last union that pulls this shit. California, or anywhere, we'll see how much sympathy they get from the public.  And they wonder why they get no respect.

i dont want to union bash but....bleeding your employer dry will eliminate all jobs. making concessions in crazy times will ensure employment and benefits for the forseeable future

Hey, I only union bash when its necessary and is well deserved.

They are not acting responsibly. And deserve every bit of criticism they are receiving...

Our local Cooper Tire plant announced it was shutting down this week.......    Simply said they could not make a profit anymore.
 
When labor dictates terms to ownership.....you have cooked up a big ole pot of failure

i believe unions have gone way overboard in the past 15 years or
 
so but to sit here and blame everything on them without
 
realizing the real problem is that people are losing their jobs
 
are fearful of losing their jobs and are not spending money is
 
the real problem facing this country right now and more of the
 
reason why cooper tire is shutting down and not the union

What's strange is that the California economy would be in the top 10 of COUNTRIES woldwide.  It's shocking that the bulk of the tax collections are from individuas and not corporations.

   You are correct.   The union is not the only reason that Cooper shutdown.  The state of the economy played a role as well.   The problem is the owners of the company are the only ones bearing any of the weight.  Do you think that labor took a paycut?  No, infact they continued to demand more pay while the Co. was struggling to stay a float.    I'm not anti-union by any means, but i am anti anybody but the owners of a Co setting its terms.  As business owners we know what has to happen to stay profitable and open for that matter.  An owner MUST be the final authority and not be dictated to by its hired help.

The home of the richest of the rich! and ALOT of them.   The average middle class income there has to be through the roof.    I'm glad they support paying even more individual income tax

I'm pretty sure, that since debt is the glue that binds our great country together, that California will break off the continent and sink into the ocean . It was nice knowing you, left coast .
 
That's gonna be a big hit to our GDP. BUT if you're looking for bright spots, we need a reduction in housing inventory, so this should be just what the doctor ordered from the supply side of housing .
 
Like a great FriedShrimp once said, affordable housing is not the problem .

The Governator should start with cost cutting in educating illegal immigrants’ children, providing medical care to illegal immigrants and jailing those convicted of committing crimes.

As far as the union talk, maybe I dont get it I dunno but someone said above that when labor dictates terms to ownership that equals problems. I've been one of the ones affected by the growing unemployment rates but even before I had shitty pay for a job I loved. It's not right when labor works hard and gets the shaft and short end of the stick when someone behind a desk gets all the money/glory/profits. Radio  (my industry) is fickle yes, but this goes for a lot of industries/job selections.

Once California does go bankrupt you better watch your fucking heads people because this house of cards is falling down.
 
Solution: Collect all the money we can get to as a country, ALL OF IT, go to the richest people on the planet. Like the asians say at the poker rooms (not meant to be racist if taken that way I apologize) R N  (that would be ALL IN for those of you not following along)

Most I talked to[Guys closed to retirement] when I worked in the Bay Area said they were selling out and retiring some where else, Reason being cost of living, taxes. This was before 9-11.Sell there house, move some where else, upgrade for a fraction of the cost. I know we have a bunch here in Oregon.
Always liked Cali would be living there now if not for earthquakes, me wife says no way.
To many people living in Cali don't pay there fare share, reason they are going down.

this is not the issue. this is never the issue

everyone pays more than their fair share. the problem is Cali and a few other states have a TON of leeches on their system and million of illegals spending getting taxpayer dollars

KOAJ........That's what I ment, to many foreigners in CA that don't pay there fare share. The 1st thing they learn when they move there is how to milk the system. They are experts at it.
CA is in the top 10 economys in the World last time I looked. They should of saw it coming is all I can say.
Examples: Hide income; 2 or 3 sets of ID's.This is so they can get $$ from the state level for nothing.
Arizona same way. State taxes just keep going to pay for it.
