Only good thing about this tournament is that I will get to watch the best player in the world in my opinion plying his trade, Yannick Jauzion ||an_dance.gif' border=0>

I've already placed an outright bet
France to win the 6 Nations - $2.00
Kind schedule for the frogs as they play their two strongest competitors in England and Ireland at home. And based on what has been happening in the European Cup thus far, the French teams especially Tolouse where most of the representation will come from have been in fine form.

Forgot to add:
France to win the grand slam - $2.90
If they beat both Ireland and England at home, i think it will be academic

Yeah, Rod, all faves should at least win this first week. I agree. Lines are tough, though. At first glance, I want to bet all dogs on the spreads, but it seems too easy.
For instance, I'd love to bet Italy getting 23.5 at Lansdowne Road, but it just seems too freakin' easy. May just have to fade myself and take the Irish?
As far as France, they are certainly the strongest side going. Plus, they get England in Paris. Seems like they've named a weaker side for Scotland this week? No? IMO, Ellisalde should start on the first XV. Is Betson even on the squad? They'll miss Rougerie as well. Also, what is the status of Benoit Baby?
Good luck, man.||an_cheers.gif' border=0>

I'm thinking along the same lines as you in terms of taking some dogs at with the + points, though i think Ireland might in fact blow Italy away tonight but am just checking some team news before I pull the trigger.
As to France, traditionally they are very slow starters and I still remember vividly last year when they were given a scare by scotland at the Stade de France. Unfortunately my favourite player Jauzion is out for a couple of weeks due to toe fracture but again once I can firm up some team news will share some thoughts on the games.
England will maul the Welsh up forward but their backline I must say is nothing to be feared of, Hodgson is still suspect defensively as well IMO.

Thanks for the kind words, Rod. I live in the USA but do most of my gambling on stuff like tennis, rugby league, rugby union, and aussie rules. Yes, I'd certainly appreciate any input you can give me on what I just named.
I remember France struggled with Scotland last year, and Scotland has nothing to lose Sunday as a dog at Murrayfield. Irish have been in great form last few weeks in HC and Celtic if Munster and Leinster are any indicators, for sure. I agree with you on England----will demolish the Jones boys up front with that monster Sheridan but can Hodgson convert the PKs??? As much as it is still such a public play, England miss Wilko immensely. Say what you want about him, but he doesn't miss kicks. Hodgson was horrific last year in 6N.
What's up with Benoit Baby for France? Is he still injured?

Wasn't Benoit Baby suspended for a few 6 nations matches for headbutting BOD in last year's Six Nations? ||confused.gif' border=0>
To be honest I have no idea what has happened to him, whether Laporte just overlooked him for the squad this year or whether he is injured.
His centre pairing with Jauzion i thought would be simply ||an_speechless.gif' border=0>
I know Fritz has replaced Jauzion in the starting lineup, not quite sure who inside centre is at this stage ||Peace_5.gif' border=0>

I think you will find a lot of us who post here in the "other" forum will have plenty of input regarding the league/aussie rules/super 14 etc

Thanks Rod. Valbon from Brive is being paired with Fritz from Toulouse. Also, my bad, Laporte does have JB Ellisalde in at 9 and Betson is not on the 22 man squad for Scotland. I think Baby tore a knee up or something in June tests. He hasn't played in the Top14, but I noticed him last year in the 6Nations.
Yeah, I like to talk rugby and rules. Am psyched cause I got lucky today and got off to a decent start in league by getting lucky with Bradford Bulls today vs Wests. But I don't bet too hard. I saw your bet sizes on your profile, man, I ain't in your league at all. But I guess you got to go heavy if you're a professional. Just a public square on this end, but I do hate the public plays, for sure. Usually won't bet too heavy if I'm on the same side as public, but will bet hard if I like a spread side, and the public hates it.||an_cheers.gif' border=0>
Ireland should roll in early match. If they "try" and convert, they should cover the spread in the last 10 minutes.

I am going to tread lightly given it is only week 1:
Ireland -23.5 v Italy
&
unders 47.5 England v Wales
France have always been flakey to begin with so will see how they fair before unloading H2h $ on them.

30 mins til kickoff at Lansdowne Road||thumbs_up.gif' border=0>
Appreciate the input. Very much so.
Don't usually like totals, but am going to take both Ireland -23.5 and Over50.5. Straight, parlay, and reverse box parlay.
I got a feeling, Rod, that this match falls like 43-17.
Just checked weather in Dublin.....50 degrees farenheit, no wind, overcast.
England/Wales? I'll see how Ireland/Italy falls first before making a committment, but am sort of leaning to Wales +14.5.
Good luck||an_cheers.gif' border=0>

Well that sucked. ||sad.gif' border=0>
At least I didn't take too much of a drubbing with the reverse box parlay making up some ground, but still a down finish. Ireland struggled early and never could get their flow going. I really thought this one would go Over, and to be honest, would make the same bets again in a heartbeat.
Well, since one dog is in so far, I'll do the difficult thing and take England -14.5, but it's small.
Good luck on uNDER. An England 30-6 victory would be just fine. Hodgson had better make his damn kicks today, or pundits will start screaming for Wilko (and rightfully so).

Yeah I just watched that game, Ireland were diabolical - but no excuses on my part, I underestimated the Italians, they have definitely improved up forward and in Canale they have a devastating back who was giving BOD are a hard time whole match and making some pretty impressive line breaks.
I have to say the refereeing in the game was shocking, some poor decisions went against the Italians.
Good luck with your spread bet, 30-6 scoreline will do me just fine. ||an_wink.gif' border=0>

Yeah, Italy played with more committment, but they couldn't overcome the horrific officiating, for sure.
Canale played a fine defensive game, but watching BOD struggle made me aware of how important F Contempomi at Leinster is to realeasing BOD. Ronan O'Gara has never impressed me with how he bosses a match. Ireland will struggle 'til they find his replacement. And that missed kick? A disgrace.

yeah, absolutely shocking defense the last 5-10 minutes. so typical in rugby where the dominant team just blows the doors off the cover and the uNDER when the weaker team loses its committment. rugby is absolutely ruthless in this way. i see the same crappola happen in both codes over and over and over again.
well, forget about it and move on, i guess. even with the england cover, i am still down for the day and not happy to have spent the last 4 hours doing nothing but pissing money away. should've just bet and looked at scores later on. learned nothing from watching these 4 teams except this: "IF" France steamrolls Scotland tomorrow, and, like you, I have no freakin' clue, then they will be HUGE faves vs Ireland in Paris next week. If public wants to bet France and lay 20+ points, I'd be tempted to bet Ireland hard. Makes no sense on paper given Ireland's pitiful committment today, and everyone on the Paris side will be yapping about what happened when Wales visited last year, but stranger things have happened.
Have you followed much of the Super14's "goings on" during the pre-season? I have not very closely, but need to get up to speed soon and fast.
Good luck on your plays today and tomorrow. On this end, probably won't touch Scotland/France after today's aggregate loser, but will hope for a France blowout so there is a little more value in Ireland next week. But it's hard, O'Gara won't scare anyone and Ireland will be on the back foot the entire match trying to deal with the avalanche coming at them for 80 minutes. Maybe it's better to hope for France to eek out a win, or even lose, so odd on them will have the value???
Just rambling right now.
Thanks for the help, man.||Peace_5.gif' border=0>

So, anybody watch that Scot game in full? was it fluke time, or do they present real value in coming games? On paper it looks like they can take either Wales or Ireland @home (I dont know the schedule as I type, so I dont know which of those 2 sides they do have at home)

BC:-
No fluke, the scots FORWARDS pack completely dominated the French. I was blinking twice because in all the set pieces Scotland had them under the pump, it was only their classy back row that kept the Frogs in the game.
Italy and Scotland are definitely teams that might be understimated by the books, they both present value especially at home as dogs IMO.

Perhaps there is no sport on the planet where lack of committment can be more exposed than in rugby football. Scotland was totally committed last Sunday, I'm sure. Was France? Not likely.
France has definitely done the right damage control by getting Betson, Traille, and Rougerie back on squad. There'll be a hell of a lot more committment in Stade de France this Saturday vs Ireland.
