It is an honor to give everyone the 1st post for the 2009 season. Philly wins this one because of homefield advantage!! The other reason is that Lowe sucks out loud!!
Philles 6
Braves 4

Lowe had 2 cracks at the Phillies in the playoffs and couldn't get it done. Now he is with a team that is 8 - 22 in their last 30 meetings. Case closed........PHILS WIN. Myers goes 4 for 4 with 6 RBI's LOL.

People knocking Lowe? How about the other guy pitching? Myers is a complete bum. Had Hamels pitched this game, the Phillies would be an easy pick...however, he isn't. Braves squeak out the road opener 4-3.

I'm not one to make decisions based on how well a guy has done against another team. Granted, Myers' past appearances against the Bravos aren't very good. Myers just isn't the guy he used to be, being bounced around between the bullpen and starting rotation. Some could even make the argument that he is the Phillies' biggest liability in the starting pitching staff. We'll obviously see tomorrow night, but like I said, I think his ability has sharply declined recently. On the other hand, Lowe seems energized to be in a new city, pitching for a team that has built a strong pedigree with regards to pitching. Lowe has a great opportunity on opening night to show his critics he is worth every penny of his $15 million/year salary. Should be a fun one to watch.

Myers pitched great the second half of last year, a big part of the phillies winning the series. The couldnt have done it without him. After the all star break his ERA was 3.08 and had a whip of 1.17 in 13 starts. That stint in the minors woke him up and he was sharp as hell after that.

the phils will be getting their rings before wednesday's day game.
they do have some pregame festivities planned for tonight about an hour before game time (like the raising of the championship banner, video montage, etc.).
i'm heading over to the lot around 2:00, and rest assurred, the place will be rocking tonight the way it was when we left it at the end of last season.
myers has lost 35 lbs. and seems to be in better shape. his problems with the braves in the past have me a bit concerned, but he also pitched like an ace the last 2 months of the season in 2008. not sure which one will show up tonight. i'm obviously hoping it's the latter.
the under might be the best play tonight. temp should be around 50 degrees and the braves are sending lowe and his sinker ball to the hill.
i'm probably going to throw a small amount on the phils, just to make the game a bit more interesting for myself, but i've obviously got a biased opinion on this one.

Braves vs. Phillies under 8.5 runs (2 units) - well, it's still relatively cold in Philly this time of year. Despite the box they call Citizens Bank Park the ball should be relatively quiet tonight because of the colder weather. The Phillies always seem to start the season slow, no matter how well they do in spring traning. Brett Myers takes the mound tonight bc Hamels is injured, and Myers is not really the quality player he used to be (probably something to do with the wife beating). Derek Lowe ERA is anything but, he struggled against the Phils during the playoffs last season but is poised to have another good year with the Braves and new pitching coaches who know their stuff. This should be a great game to watch and I'm looking at the Phils winning 5-3, or 4-3.
