Not so fast on Nevada. Prior to this year, SMU had a combined record of 2-22 the past 2 years. This is a team that hasn't been to a bowl game in a while. Don't underestimate this fact. The fans will be hyped and should flock to the bowl and it's a homecoming for June Jones.

SMU is not very good. They have played 5 teams with a 500 or better record. They have won one game
There record of the teams they have beat: 26-47. This does not include the D2 team of Stephen Austin.
Against those teams above, there avg margin of victory is only 6!! 6 against that schedule does not impress me at all. Neither does the fact that they lost to Washington State. There average loss was by 11.4 points
Nevada comes in on fire. They have scored 49.6 points per game in their last 9 games, and in their last six they have averaged 51.8
Nevada's avg. margin of victory is 29! I repeat 29!
Nevada feasts on mediocore team. I would classify SMU in this category. If you can't tell by now, I am going to be all over Nevada here.
Analysis: Uh oh for SMU. Nevada is going to have a field day on SMU. Nevada will be able to run all over this SMU defense. If Nevada does need to air it out a couple of times they will be able to do so against this less than stellar secondary. What do you guys think the over/under is on the number of punts Nevada has in this game?
Analysis: While there should be a little concern about the Nevada Passing Defense, It's not enough to talk me out of this play. SMU can not run the ball generally, and especially will not be able to on Nevada's defense. With that combined, Nevada will be able to focus on the Pass.
Other:
Net Punt Avg: Nevada: 37.1 yards SMU: 35.0 yards
Penalties / yards per game Nevada: 6.7 / 61.0 yards SMU: 7.4 / 64.9 yards
3rd Down conversions (offensive): Nevada: 51% SMU: 29%
3rd Down conversions (defensive): Nevada: 38% SMU: 43%
Field Goals: Nevada: 5 for 8 SMU: 10 for 15
Red Zone Scores (offensive): Nevada: 84% SMU: 89%
Red Zone Scores (defensive): Nevada: 88% SMU: 80% ****Note: This is with their opponents field goal percentage against is just 53%*****
Red Zone Touchdowns (offensive): Nevada: 76% SMU: 67%
Red Zone Touchdowns (defensive): Nevada: 67% SMU: 74%
Analysis: The biggest thing I take from here is the 3rd down percentages. SMU converts just 29% of 3rd downs, and Nevada is good on defensive 3rd downs as well. Expect a decent amount of 3 and outs from SMU which will give the ball right back to the dynamic offense of Nevada. I feel like Nevada may be able to dominated TOP and keep the SMU defense on the field and keep them tired. Other than that I don't see too much note worthy here.

This game isn't worth putting too much effort into presetantion or persuasion. Nevada is going to roll in this game. Simply put, SMU will not be able to stop them. Nevada doesn't have a great D either, but the differences in the offenses and how Nevada played in the last two months is worlds apart!!!! The only question is whether I play an ingame parlay with the over in this one also. Probably very large on the Pack and a small parlay with them and the over tied up together. But certainly going to pound on Nevada!!

Love Nevada here. I know their D is'nt very good, but if they double up on Sanders who has about 70% of SMU receiving yards and force Mitchell to look for other options or just hand off to Mcneal they'll never be able to keep pace with Nevada .
Nevada despite a bad start to their season against an unnamed team from South Bend has been very good to me this year and don't see any reason why they wont continue here.

I see Nevada rolling SMU in this game. NO ONE since week 3 has stopped Nevada's offense (Even Boise State...Nevada gained 383 yards against them!!) & SMU WILL NOT stop or contain Nevada's offense. SMU has TROUBLE stopping opponents on defense. As for Nevada, they can play defense whenever they want, they have shown that they can!! I see Nevada's defense playing pretty good against SMU.

Mighty Mo, you are correct, SMU has sucked a big bag o' dicks for years, and frankly, THIS SMU team sure ain't much better! SMU definitely doesn't belong in a bowl, except maybe to have Nevada flush them around and down the bowl. Gonna Parlay Nevada and the over, and tease it too.

Nevada looks like the easy pick here but I'm not sold on it....June Jones knows this Nevada staff and players well coaching in the WAC for so many years...Colin Kapernick among other Nevada players were already playing whille June Jones was still coaching the Warriors so it's not like he does not know what his SMU team is up against.
This game could be closer than people think. I might just lay off the sides and go with the total.

The more I look at my capping bruthas and really think about this game.......I am wondering if June and his upstarts can keep it within the margin.........for Pete's sake......they haven't been to a bowl since the Poney Express with James and Dickerson were in the backfield 25 years ago!!!!
I have to think about this a little more and talk to some cappers on this one......

Sharp loves himself some SMU...........dang.....I really have to think about this one.......I got Utah tonight and the under.....in an ingame small parlay.......looks like I'll lose a little money like last night when I had the outcome right and the total wrong..........might load up on SMU. I'll be back in the morning with what I like. Let's hope the second half of the the Utah game has a few TO's and slows down!!!
