He was taken off both mounts today because of his reckless driving in the Saratoga back lot yesterday. Apparently he almost ran over a Pinkerton guard. Kent said it was just horseplay; the stewards didn't think so.
We talked about this last year & Kent D is back in the news.
He began a 6-week out-patient alcohol rehab program yesterday. He failed a breathalyzer test 2 weeks ago & lost his mount on Tiger Walk in the Preakness & Dullahan in the Belmont.
He can ride in the afternoon & then attend 4 hours of counseling each night. Dale Romans is the only trainer so far to state he'll use Kent D when he gets his shit together.
KD has a young son who was born deaf & also suffers from Usher syndrome which could also take away his vision. He's been separated from his wife the past 4 years & it doesn't sound like he has much of a family foundation for support.
He's only 42 & still has a great career ahead if he can put down the bottle. Don't know how many more chances KD will get.

good post midnight1...kent had one mount at belmont last saturday and won it in a maidien special weights....paid 26.80 10.80 and 5......i think it was the 3rd race...he can still ride but he;s gotta get some help....let;s hope he does...........

It is a shame and as far as it happening to alot of these guys most are no diff. then you and me.I will not mention names but been around many of them . I dont drink but these Jocks ,Trainers and Assistant Trainers who are still riding and Training today would have us out till the bar closed which in NY was 4 am then we would go to the diner then they would go right to work and get up on a Horse for the morning workout or gallop It gets real crazy when Saratoga runs . I hate to say it but seen it with my own eyes that when they do or did get caught there was not much that the mighty dollar could not take care of . I am talking lets say from 1980 -to 2000 then I moved out of NY but I actually still talk to or have friends who still talk to them .As for the Jocks only 1-2 are riding today but as for the asst Trainers and Trainers they are still going strong These kids are on horses at the age of 5--6-7 yrs old at Daddys farm and the beating their body takes ends up leading to more then Alcohol The NYRA has their own NA and AA meetings in the Backstretch so they dont have to go public about it and put themselves out into the eye of the public. It is sad when I sit here and think back about how it was back then. I said earlier I didnt drink but I did party and to me at that time it was great alot of fun but I do know how serious it is and how much trouble it can bring you. My prayers go out to him (them ) As far as their recovery its not about how much money you have and where you go for treatment . It is all up to the individual on whether they are ready or not. I hope he is 1 that is ready so once he is strong enough he may be able to help the next person.

well said cee123...a lot of jockeys drink like the old timer larry snyder...he won many titles at oaklawn park before pat day took over..but he knew when to stop...he also won many titles at louisiana downs ...look what happen to willie shoemaker when he retired...rode for 40 years and never got hurt on a horse then got drunk and crash his SUV ..so sad............
