Ho! Ho! Ho! Just another day of making money fading the consensus on this board! Look...all of you, and there is no need to name names here...just read the posts and come to a realization..an epiphany..an awareness...the HUGE majority of people on this board, and most others, LOSE THEIR ASS every day in sports gambling.
Its simple...its less work...its the easy way...just play opposite of the board consensus and win with the house.
The hardest part is letting go of your ego...your need to "be right" about something...anything...just check your pride at the door and start putting money in your pocket.
All you have to do is look in the mirror and repeat the mantra...
"I am a sports gambling addcit. When I lose, I forget how much. When I win, I adjust my record to show the last 10 or 15 and that sparkling 60% over the short term is all I remember. I need to be right and can't stop trying to prove it to the books and they keep on smiling when I place my bets. I am the ultimate square who just doesn't want to believe I am a loser in the long haul."
The first part of recovery is to come out of denial...take the first step today. There is plenty of time to fade the consensus and make money the rest of your life. But first, you must come out of denial and understand that you are one of the great majority who loses.
You, my friend...just like me...are a loser in sports gambling. But, you can be a winner...all it takes is the strength to say...
"I will never play my own selections again...I will only...FADE THE CONSENSUS!"

How informative and enlightening...whenever I see one of these bright fellows commenting, I can't help but remember a very famous quote..
"A truth's initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply
the lie was believed. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the
masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker, a
raving lunatic. --Dresden James
The great LIE of sports gambling is that you can eventually beat the house...Sports gamblers, in particular, have been fed a steady stream of information letting them think they can beat the books over time and attain the magic 56% winner number over the long haul. Well, the simple fact is 97% of sports gamblers lose money in the long haul...I simply decided to play with the house instead of against it.
This may be a concept difficult to understand for one of your mental capacity, however, I am dedicating my gambling life to the education of individuals such as yourself. Therefore, I will take pity upon you and continue to mercifully forbear and be longsuffering towards you.
Best of luck to you!

Need to update today's record as I tailed a new fade the consensus member and went an additional 3-0 for +900 dollars on some late games... Updated record for today is 7-2 with a +1440 dollar winner.
There is nothing hard about this friends...most players lose when they gamble...just switch over from following them, to fading them.
The hardest part is stopping all the hard work and pride you put into your selections...in a way, its TOO easy to fade compared to capping the games. A little thing called EGO gets in the way though and some of us just cant stomach the thought of fading someone else's picks all the time.
Its ok..I thought that too. Until I realized that my ego was costing me thousands of dollars a year. Is your ego worth that to you??

Do you pick a new fade every day or keep a running list of candidates? How well does this work for other sports? Are you making money consistently every week?
I agree that most players eventually lose but there is a potential to fade a schlep and he goes 5-0. Thats gambling too but its probably rare. I like this idea and may start trying it especially against the attention person who post locks and GOY's etc .

smacksmiter, when you say fade the consensus, what consensus are you referring to? the one on the scoreboard of this site showing % of the side. Who do you know who to fade? I took kansas saturday - 17.5 and won but that was my pick as I did not see much discussion on this game.

I agree with the theory, but my feeling is if you can't find a sensible reason to pick a team other than fading the public then make it a no play. You have to be able to think of a few reasons why the team may cover in my opinion. I try not to bet with the public, but sometimes there are games that you can't pass up. Georgia -3.5 vs. Georgia Tech earlier in the year comes to mind.

I have been developing a list, mainly of the cappers on this site who have been posting this season. As you can see, I have been a member of Covers for several years but dont have many posts. I was mainly a lurker who did what many of you do ...watched to see who the hot cappers were, took the consensus of the hot cappers...threw in a bit of my own reasoning/capping and then tossed my hard earned money to the books.. There was always a good reason why the good cappers lost, and of course...they would adjust their records based on the last 10 or 20 selections where they happened to go 60% winner or so. It just always seemed that I lost when following them and it really didnt take that long to start the losing.
This year, I sat back and very deliberately thought about my gambling ...and I came to a realization that I was a loser at sports gambling. And after reading thread after thread after thread year after year after year....that almost everyone else was a loser too. So, based on the FACT that the HUGE majority lose money in sports gambling...how hard can it be to say that you should really be FADING all the time instead of working hard to JOIN those who lose money ????????????????
However, even with this realization...it was very very hard for me to make the switch to fading...and I finally found out why...Pride. My ego said.."I don't like this...you arent being a MAN and making your OWN picks. You , are a coward. Make your own picks and lose the money...at least that way you can still be a real MAN...even though you will continue to be broke."
So, it has taken even longer to truly get to the point where I actually put my money down on fading. And I don't expect any of you who take this path to be any different than me. You will have a very hard time making the switch from following others to fading others. But once you do...you will wonder why you did not see it before.
As far as what consensus to fade..it really truly doesn't matter. You can fade the big Covers consensus tracker...you can pick out a few cappers on this site..which is what I do. The one I faded earlier in this thread is a very respected capper and a big name here. Did not scare me in the least to fade him...not even for a second.
If you are still wondering if fading is the way to go...test it out. Pick out 5 cappers on this board and , on paper, track them over a week. Actually do it...don't just say you will and then forget about it or let it go...Spend some time to see if this works. Pick out the "Best" cappers and track 5 of them...it won't matter. Find out the truth...know the dirty little secret of sports gambling for yourself...97% of sports gamblers lose money. As long as you dont fade the extremely rare and lucky guy who actually has a long term documented and verified better than 56% record...you cant go wrong because all the others are fodder for your winning as a fader..
And there is plenty to choose from...you don't have to look far
award..no record posted to this point as I am lazy and only keep track for myself. However, I may start as of the new year as it will be my first full year of fading.

I added u to my friend's list on this site. Accept me, so that we can talk.
I have some questions and comments that I have for u and some other things to discuss with u.
Or e-mail me sometime at DIV>
I have actually seriously already thought about what u posted in this article before. I had someone talk to me about it a few years ago and I was to prideful to listen.
Anyway, years later now and thousands of dollars missing...I was thinking about this logic again a few weeks ago. So, if u have some time, I would like to talk to you.

Smack man: I had to dig this thread out. It was an interesting thread, and your posts are well written. I enjoy well written posts, because I know it's not some kid behind the computer getting his jollies.
Anyways, you speak the truth and your method is very intriguing which I am going to do. Why not?
Bookies, the house, always win as long as they have good managers who know how to move the line and set limits.
BL to you.

love the dresden james quote, thanks for mentioning that ...
however, i can't help but feel that the most likely result of this in the long term is that you'll end up fading people who are hitting at, or just over, 50% ... which means you'll be hitting at, or just under, 50%. and the juice will just gnaw until there's nothing left.
will continue to look for your threads, though, should you wish to continue to post your actual plays based on fades ... gl to you.

Smack, stop. Don't ruin it for the rest of us that have been doing the same thing you do. Don't you undersand that by publicizing the system, you're jeopardizing its success. Stay in the shadows and keep your posts to yourself. Thanks.
