Just some leans today, and one important note. These two teams play some good defense, and both look to play pretty slow as well. With Mercer, I've commented on how their size at the guard position and size in general really forces other teams to work the ball and take difficult shots. Their coming off an upset victory at Old Dominion where they scored well over a point per possession having scored 79 points, but it's a bit misleading b/c ODU really had to change the style at the last minute as Bazemore was arrested during warmups. The game still only hit 63 possessions. As for Fairfield, I think they're in for a struggle today. They aren't the most talented team offensively and now they enter this game without Needham of course, and the other PG on the roster in Wade just broke his hand and is done for the season. Those two players both rank nationally in assist percentage, and combined they assisted on over 44% of this team's offense. Again, they aren't the best of offensive teams as it stands, so this hurts. It doesn't only hurt from a chemistry standpoint, but those two are also their best perimeter shooters. In terms of the defensive side of the ball, and the reason I avoid the side and go after the total here, Fairfield gets a bit better. They bring more size into the lineup, and while they're filling the void with no real offense, the players that step up here have some good defensive #'s, and more importantly a bit more size. Mercer's defense forces teams to move the ball, this should be present today with a Fairfield team without a true PG, and Fairfield's defense forces teams to move the ball, probably a bit more-so as Mercer really hasn't seen a defensive scheme like this on the year. Fairfield's defensive average at home falls below 60 points, and again, this is going to be one of the better defensive lineup that trots out on the court all year.

#5 Posted: 3/24/2012 9:07:59 AM Sorry you don't have a play today as you've been mad hot. This is typically the hardest time of the year to get hot too.
Props to you for all your great writeups and insight.
I'm on Gators & Buckeyes tonight...but they will be medium to small plays.

#11 Posted: 3/24/2012 9:48:45 AM So u think pitino beats his pupil and his guards dominate?
All signs point to Ohio st and I hate when it's this one-sided... |

#19 Posted: 3/24/2012 11:20:28 AM Nropp, do you cap any other sports after college basketball season? You are the only reason I've really gotten in on NCAA basketball this year and I'm not sure what to do when it's over! |

Must be difficult to go from a detailed analysis to an actual prediction (right?).
I like Florida (who is Missouri-like) and Cuse early and Ohio ST 2nd H |
