I'll tell you what, Kentucky has looked sooo good. They have ALL the pieces. The experience they will gain throughout the season will make this the team to beat for all the marbles. I think they are the best team I've seen thus far (and I've watched A LOT of college hoops :))
Best mid major I've seen play thus far has been Murray State. Now, I've seen them play a few times and somewhat got sucked in when seeing them almost knock off Cal to open the season. Obviously, Butler and Gonzaga are at the top of that list but I hardly qualify those perenial BB programs as mid majors anymore.
Most overhyped, overrated team thus far???? North Carolina. They will end up 4th or 5th in the ACC behind Georgia Tech, Duke, Clemson and maybe a sleeper team like NC State.

Best team - Kansas. The most impressive team has been Syracuse though.
Best mid-major - Wisconsin-Green Bay, as swizzol mentioned.
Most overrated - Hard to argue with North Carolina, although if they get the guard play figured out, they'll be really good. Butler in the top 10 was a bit ambitious, but they are still solid. Cal would probably be my pick for most overrated. Some places had them top 10.

as weird as it is, i think I have been impressed with BE teams. Cincy and SHU, who both came in with the word "make noice" around them, have played great. Cuse is 10x better thant hey were suppose to be. And team I don't think anyone is REALLY talking about, WVU. Thye are a tough team, and match up for people. Tex and Kanas, have done what they were suppose to. Staying in the BXII, K-State has played great, and is only going to get better.
And You want to talk about the lil guys playing big, just 3 words
WEST COAST CONF.!!!
Portand, St.Mary, and SD have played great.
Also, they had some bad losses, but don't over look CoC
Letdown teams- wash and Cal, pick which everyone you want. Vandy and Miss ST in SEC. Clemson and FSU in ACC
Sorry, thats a lot of writting, just some thoughts on the yr so far.

- Phantom, I will set up a bet on matchbook RIGHT NOW with you, NC will in NO WAY finish worst than 2nd!!! You really telling me you have been impressed w/ Clemson, or Free Shoes U? COME ON!!
I can't even type NC ST, without laughing

Yes. You are saying 4th or 5th, which I think is just flat out crazy. I think GT is the only team that can even think about 2nd place. i would even make a bet just on NC will finish better than every team you picked. You can have a couple of outs.

West Virginia is awfully good, and that is after seeing them in person 3 times along with Clemson, Butler, aTm, and Minnesota in the Amaheim Classic.
The biggest strength they have that doesn't get noticed a lot is their ability to play defense because of their length and strength. They have so many interchangeable guys who all go 6'7-6'9 that can handle the ball and play all 5 positions. Down the stretch, they put 6'8 Devin Ebanks on Donald Sloan for aTm, and he just picked his pocket twice and went down and dunked it, and salted the game away. That's interesting in the event they would meet up with a Kentucky as it gives John Wall something different.
And another thing that impressed me about seeing them in person was just how strong and big they are. They looked like a gang of NFL linebackers. Someone told me that Huggins has a superior strength program whereas many others don't, and man it shows. These kids are all 230-260 and just ripped. Like i said, Minny and Clemson, and aTm are no slouches but to see them against WVU guys it was like night and day. That stuff counts for a lot when you are banging inside, they just flat get out after it.
They are a good team to bet because of the way they play defense, but are one of the rare defensive teams who can also score, so it leads to big splits. I think that they along with Kansas, Syracuse, and Kentucky are at the top. With Kentucky, they are young but they have 2 just absolute studs in Wall and Patterson that will keep them in every game.
Best mid major i have seen this far is St. Mary's. They are winning their games by large margins, at home and on the road.
Most overrated is the same team as it is every year...DUKE. Im surprised that people haven't noticed that they basically have no true guards, especially at the point. Schyer is running the point, and he is much better off the ball. They have no depth, and if he and Nolan Smith get in trouble, they are going to have a bunch of big guys on the court. They would get maimed by a John Wall. Kyle Singler also gets my vote for most overrated player. Takes tons of bad shots and shoots way too much.

Sacramento State has been for me in the early season this year -- I wouldn't say they are the best or anything, but they've been far better than expected.
Best team is probably Kentucky. When they put it all together I don't think any team in NCAAB can match up with them. They are beasts.
Most overrated? I'd say UCLA but it's too obvious (plus expectations were low this season anyways). Maybe Cal would be a good pick for most overrated. Not sure yet.

love new mexico to make a run in the big dance....and if kentucky can get that clown cousins to get his head on straight, they will make a deep run in the tourney and will challenge KANSAS for the title.

BEST TEAM...KANSAS (SIMPLY LOADED)
MID MAJOR....WCU (WISC GB IF PLAYING AT HOME)
OVERRATED....CAL AND UNC

best team: syracuse (amazing since they lost to lemoyne i know, they did play man that game)
midmajor: im not getting this wiscgb, one win over wisky then smoked by oakland. horizon has looked good as a league, st marys has been impressive early (i expected a bad year from them).
WAY under the radar: kansas st and new mexico
overrated: michiganas my friend said michigan wasnt even the 15th best team in the big 10.
unc and cal could also make this list.

PURDUE IS VERY GOOD Have been impressed with Purdue myself. Their comeback win at Bama on saturday was just another proof that this team has all it takes to make a Final Four run. I think Ole Miss will also be VERY good this year, they have a lot of good athletes, a very capable coach and should play the title in the SEC.
Among the last-fancied good surprises: Western Carolina, Northwestern (don't laugh), Seton Hall (if all pieces fall right). Very surprised with Temple, this team looks a contender in the A-10. Tulsa is a team to stay on the right side of too. St Mary's looks solid and North Texas should get some nice betting spots when DD underdog.
Disappointments? Where to start? UCLA? They are terrible. Louisville have landed a couple of eggs already. Wasn't expecting much of Michigan, so no disappointment there. The whole Pac-10 is awful. The bottom-feeders of the SEC will be bad (Auburn, Arkansas). Washington couldn't defend to save their lives.

OK, I need to know this. You guys are driving me up a wall!!!
How many times on this thread has someone said best teams this yr that were "surprise" they used Cuse or Tucky? Go ahead count!!!
Now, can you give me the UNC schedule and tell me the 2 teams they lost to? Oh, @ Tucky and IN MSG (real neutral court) to Cuse!!!!
I said after the 1st game in my write up that its obvious that guard play and handling the ball will be the part that takes them as far as they can go. I said Elite 8 would be a success, and a Final 4 would be like winning the NC.
This is a "rebuilding year", in which Roy had on the schedule, a top team in MSU 1st week of Dec, a two ranked teams in NYC, the greatest thing since sliced bread @ tucky, and still has a game in SA vs. Texas!!!
Some people hide their team, others throw them into the fire and say "Let's how much of a man they are" . I love it!!! Cause life on the road in the ACC and games in march, when he knows they will need it, are what counts.
So, talk about how great Tucky and Cuse are, then tell me UNC is SOOOOOOO over rated, is talking out of both sides of your mouth.
Great, NC isn't better than Cuse and Tucky RIGHT NOW, in their building. You name the 2 seed that wants to play this Heels team the last week in march in the Sweet 16.

i agree kentucky will win the national championship may go undeafeated
Maybe this is a homer pick, but I think Tennessee will get Kentucky at least once this season... doesn't mean they are a better team, just that it is a big rivalry game and UT can get on streaks where they are unstoppable.
