Wall Streets Plays 11-19

Winner yesterday with Cornell easily beating up on the boys from Umass.  Played a good amount on them as I like playing Senior led teams on the road.  Today's action.

CALIFORNIA BEARS (2-0) vs. SYRACUSE ORANGEMEN (2-0)

Game Time:  7:00 ET        

Opening Line:  PK               Current Line:  California -2

Market percentage:  60% on California

Early backers jumped on the Bears and quickly pushed the line to 2.  A quick buyback has bought the line back to 1.5 and most likely will close at 1.  Syracuse is playing a virtual home game in front of numerous fans and most likely will have a decent home court advantage.  California has traveled to East Coast to showdown east vs. west.  The Pac 10 will be in Cal’s vocabulary come end of the year as they are producing good numbers over two decent teams (Murray State and Detroit).  They’ve found the distance from three point range and shooting over 40 percent on the year. 

The Orangeman have easily handled their competition and after the negative exposure about the loss to Lemoyne a division II school, they’ve used the motivation to completely dominate inside and outside the paint.  Syracuse ranks 3^rd in TO Pctg, 2^nd in Blocked Shots, and 2nd in Steals.  These 3 categories have led them to easy baskets and breakaway dunks.  They do shoot the three with some consistency (Rautins) but the key is pound the inside and makes layups.  California will have trouble defending the interior pass.  However, if Syracuse fails to get back on defense the three bombs will offset their inside attack.  I look for the Orangeman to extend the zone playing length uptop and forcing penetration. 

This game should come down to the final 3 minutes.  If Cal is unable to stop the inside presence and allow easy baskets this game should be a 10 point victory for the home crowd.  FT’s may factor in giving a huge advantage to the Bears.  In my opinion, I like;

RIDER BRONCS (2-0) vs. VIRGINIA CAVALIERS (1-1)

Opening Line:  Virginia  -5    Current:  5 and a couple shops 4.5

Market:  67 % on Rider (Agree with the market)

I believe the wrong team is favored here.  The Rider Broncs are a team that was 9-8 last year and finished 19-13 with a win in the MAAC conference with a young team.  This team is a year older and understands the system.  The Cavaliers are also a young team that played as good as their talent is.  They are not a strong team in the ACC and recently got beat by an ok South Florida team by 17 after being down at half time by 3.  Last year Rider lost to Liberty in the postseason, Liberty was a team that beat Virginia at Virginia.  Rider already possesses a 14 point road victory over a Mississippi State team preseason ranked at 18th. This is enough for me to purchase stock into them.  They may burn me but at that price I'll take the points and the ML.
