had a shitty Thursday, a so-so Friday, a good Saturday and my Sunday paid for my trip with a Syracuse win and Over, Mich St, Xavier, Missouri, and Kansas all covering ... I had larger than usual plays on the Spartans and the Jayhawks ...

Didn't know you were in Vegas. I am still here, and have been coming out for the tournament for the past 25 years or so. It is a great time if you are a hoops fan.
The only interesting thing is that nobody has been giving any love to UCONN. I have, and it has been returned!! I had a so-so Thursday and Friday then a great Saturday thanks in large part to UCONN.
When I saw the -6.5 line today, I played it immediately. It has already gone to 7 the last Iooked here.
If you go out again next year, and we are still doing this, we can get together for a drink.

Congrats on the good weekend Bum. I had a good Saturday, and thats about it! It looks like the tournament has returned to normalcy, as the dogs were king in the first round and the fav's were the play in the second round.
I'm hoping to be out there with Celtic next year so I second that proposition.

CG - glad to hear that the money is flowing. I was at Mandalay Bay and some of the bettors there thought that sharing information, leans, insights, etc. was against the law. I guess I get spoiled by the comraderie her in the forum.
Celtic - this is my fifth year for the tournament. I think it might be my last. The MB book was overrun. The lines to bet were extreme. I might consider the conference tournament week next year but things could change, especially if I know other guys are going to be there.
Freight - it would be great to see some friendly "faces" in the crowd.

Didn't I tell everyone I would be in town, Ghost? I come out every year but I think I'll go a week earlier next year. The crowds were intense at the MB sports book.

Bum, sometimes the less "high-profile" books are a little bit better in terms of the crowd. We used to go to Caesar's, but having to get there at 0-dark 30 just to get a couple of seats got old. I wasn't there this year, but last year Paris and Bally's weren't that bad, and the Mirage was managable, but you still had to stand up. I don't think I've ever been to MB during Madness, but it is a popular hotel so I can only imagine. Other than that, I'm sure Kasper would know a little better, but I'm sure some of the off strip hotels are slightly less crowded as well.
It does seem like the crowds have been getting exponentially larger for Madness as every year goes by though. I know that the second weekend is much more low key than the first, maybe you could try a week later instead of a week earlier?

Based on how you did in Green's bracket tourney, I'd have guessed a better weekend for you. Sounds like it came out alright regardless. Never been to Vegas in March, as I don't follow so I don't play hoops. Still, I can imagine how insane it must be during the tourney. That makes the crowd fun..............for a while. Then you get tired of waiting in line and struggling to find a seat. Glad to hear the trip was paid for. I always believed if I covered at least half the costs, it was a good trip.

I have been going out for twenty five years, so I guess I qualify as "pops" to. It all started to get ridiculous about 15 years ago when ESPN named being at Ceasars for March Madness one of the top ten experiences for sports fans.
That's when the non-hoops fans started showing up!! Before that if you wanted some info on say Tennessee, you looked for a Tennessee hat or shirt and you could get real good info on the team.
I was over at TI for the first weekend, and it wasn't to bad. They did open a ballroom with five screens upstairs and betting stations, so the lines were not as bad as elsewhere.
I have been meeting friends for the second weekend for those last 25 years, and recently Freight has joined us when he could. One of them is a horse player and always manages to get some seats at Bally's.
What compounds the first weekend is it usually coincides with Spring Break, thus the "pops' comment.
I found a great off strip Race and Sports Book, and I am getting some info on the crowds there. I will let you know.

Glad you made it to and from safely! I turned 30 over the last week and did as I have for the last 18 years...put most everything off during the 1st week of March Madness! I remember playing hookie from school a lot as a teenager during the 1st week of the tourney, not only was it my birthday week, but basketball all day! I mean, c'mon!
I haven't been able to get to VEGAS for the tourney, but feel once I am able, it will become a yearly deal! My friends and I often catch the ponies @ Oaklawn park in Hot Springs, AR so I understand the all day, back and forth to the window, back to the action grind I am sure it is at a book in VEGAS! I am getting pumped just typing this!
Anyway, BOL with the rest of your plays. Currently I am leaning towards UCONN, UNC, the Ville or NOVA to cut down the nets. I read something before the tourney that 6 of the last 7 NCAA Champs won both 1st and 2nd round games by double digits. UCONN and NOVA are the only 2 left that won both games by DD! And that can possibly be the matchup on April 6th!..Pitt seems to be just fine with winning games, but I really believe NOVA can beat DUKE and bang with PITT to get to the F4 where they matchup well vs. UNC...Memphis might just lose to Mizou while the Ville needs to get it going!
Later!

Hey Brass ... belated Happy Birthday ... my daughter turned 39 on 3/22 ... the Vegas scene would be better if I were your age. I don't drink (anymore - sober 27 yrs now), too old to person around, and am getting cranky around crowds. I should have gone out there more when I was your age. But it is pretty cool and the action never stops.
I marvel at Villanova, getting it done so consistently with a small lineup. But they are so athletic and can beat you in so many ways I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I don't know why but I just like UNC more than I like UConn and I think Memphis could win. Pitt has always been a money play for me and there is no earthly reason they can't win it all but I'm thinking UNC or memphis right now and that's all on gut feeling.
Good Luck, My Friend. Cash early and often!

bum-- glad you are back, as i was beginning to worry that you had gone the way of so many other good guys on this forum. i too have been gone for 10 days to florida. my daughter received her doctorate degree and i took her and her two kids out to celebrate this momentous occasion ! i never say much on the basketball forum as i have never played this genre before, but i truly enjoy reading the opinions of the guys here, and have even made a buck or two from the info so graciously shared, any way, welcome back and best wishes.

Hey Coach ... congratulations on passing along those designer genes to that daughter of yours. That's a remarkable accomplishment and I know you're proud. And you ought to be.
I've been hanging around here for a couple of years and I find the guys to be helpful and not often rude or bashing. I'm too old for rude and bashing It would take a lot to scare me out of here.
I'm heading down to Florida a week from Saturday for a couple of weeks. Living in Buffalo means you have have several winter time escape routes. One of those weeks I'll have the three grand kids and that will be fun. I go to Siesta Key off Sarasota for the great beach.
Thanks for the kind wishes. I had one of my best gambling days ever on Sunday and made some serious cash so i'll be good for the rest of the tournament. Then I'll go into mourning at the passing of another hoop season, take a rest and lose all my money on bases but we'll have some fun.
Good Luck My Friend.
