Buying Picks?

Question

Everytime I log on to covers I see the advertisements like you all do about buying so and so&#x27;s picks because they are on a roll.. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Was wondering has anyone done this? and has it even been worth it?  Not sure how I feel about the whole thing just want to hear what you all have to say about it before the Tuesday games begin

Smurf -- here&#x27;s how I have always looked at it. If these touts selling picks had picks that were really that good, they wouldn&#x27;t be selling them. Instead, they&#x27;d be using the picks themselves to clean up their own books. The mere fact alone that they are selling picks should tell you something. It&#x27;s the same thing with those late night TV commercials --   "I can teach YOU how to make $100,000 in FOUR MONTHS from working at home!" No you can&#x27;t, you dick. If you could, you would be doing it yourself and not hawking your secret for a one time payment of $200.

Plus why buy picks when there are PLENTY of cappers who post for FREE of covers message boards who are legitimate with their analysis/skills and honest with their records? Never made sense to me.

While I appreciate the love from nbafan, no way I put myself in the same category as all those guys. I&#x27;m just not good enough yet -- I&#x27;m still a relative rookie in the capping game (only been doing it seriously for two years now). I look to lots of those guys that you mentioned, in addition to others (like KGC, amd, Stuckey, GameHunter, etc) for help with my picks.

Hahaha my personal favorite are the ones who sell a $20 book to make you rich. They even include all these free gifts to help you along your way. What a bargain! Amazing how these guys are "rich" off their own ideas and yet need to sell $20 books like they are completely broke.

Some of the best sports to make money on are tennis and MMA and golf which i have no idea how to handicap.  I don&#x27;t buy plays because i have put in the sweat to know where to find them and have relationships with sharps in these sports from hours upon hours on the net and forums.  This is no different than paying for plays, i have paid with my time.  Its no different when i spend hours analyzing the top guys plays with my thoughts to get my card for the day, i pay with my time, why should i criticize others who pay with $ or provide plays for a price that people are willing to pay?  &#xD;&#xA;Not all touts are boiler room operations that claim to win everyday, not all touts are crazy cocky.  What you need to do is decide if someone else can provide value to you for a price or barter that is worth it.&#xD;&#xA;On the other hand what i do have a problem with is the marketing of the covers experts.  I have counted the experts in that there are like 15-20 of them.  They market them as who is hot right now and that you should buy from them.  With 15-20 guys someone is bound to be hot just randomly by statistics.  THIS SHIT PISSES ME OFF!!!  Whether someone is hot means DICK!!!  If a player has a statistically significant record (which they all claim to have) there is only hot or not in RETROSPECT not in prediction going forward.  You can&#x27;t have this concept both ways, PERIOD.  Most of you will not understand this, even the best guys on here boast of runs of 3-1 last night or 4-0 last 4.  So what???  Streaks mean nothing short term, if you&#x27;re trying to bet who&#x27;s hot all the time, see you at the poor house.&#xD;&#xA;So after that rant i have no problem with touts and in certain circumstances they can offer great value, but the advertising of who is hot out of 20 fucking guys is manipulative and taking advantage of those who don&#x27;t understand.

Excellent counterpoint, Gamble. I agree with everything you said in that. It's similar to the debate that goes on in MMO games with buying gold -- some people are willing to exchange money for time, some aren't.

I agree with your point about marketing and statistics. Past performance is no guarantee for future results -- in fact, you'd suspect it would be just the opposite for these "experts". If we assume that the best players in the world can hit, what, 60%? 65% tops?, then these guys on a "HOT run on NBA ball, 15-2 in last 17 games!" are the WORST ones you would want to get picks from because, statistically, they are due to see a sharp regression back to the mean.

Hey smurf, my site hits 70 plus percent for the whole year! yeah like kaponfor stated above they get on a good run like this past month 25/29 at one point but it will stay around the 70 percentile.

buying picks will put u in the poor house.. if u will look most of them pick in the 50 percentile range.. i use to buy picks and they are terrible...some of better than others... but in general they all dont produce a profit after u apy for the picks.. and everyday someone has a game of the year, game of the month ect... and they only tell u about the games they are winning not about the ones they lose... DONT EVER BUY PICKS.. worst mistake i ever made...
