It's smart because they haven't  given up a goal in 8 knockout games?I'm sorry, I don't follow trends like that. Portugal is suited for the counter attack vs Spain, it's absolutely worth a shot.

GL but prepared to get frustrated.  I was an asshole and took France at +.5 (+100) on Saturday.

Anyways, GL w/ your wager.  I have Germany for the tourney so I'll be rooting for you.

Definitely worth a shot. Spain played like shit in the second half vs France. France just has had a ton of trouble scoring and did not look good this tournament. They also got smashed their last game of the group stage so they did not come into the game in top form. I am really not sure what Spain was thinking in the second half. They didn't even attempt to score and that would have cost them the game vs a team like portugal and an offensive threat of Ronaldo. Spain has their own problems and it lies in their offensive ability. They have been rotating strikers trying to figure out how to replace david villa. They have not been nearly as good as people are making them out to be. Yes they can possess the ball but they have trouble getting it in the net.
Besides the Ireland stomping we had a
1-1 draw vs Italy
1-0 game vs croatia-a goal coming in the last 2 minutes of the game.
and then the game vs France which was really 1-0 without the late PK.

Portugal has been playing great. They had a lot of attempts vs Germany but could not capitalize against the top team in the tourny.

They have scored 6 goals in the last 3 matches playing tougher competition then spain. You worry about possession? Well until last game they have been averaging only 41% possession but capitalizing on counter attacks and their opportunities. From what I have seen I am more confident in Portugal capitalizing on their opportunities and I would not be surprised to see them pull out a victory vs the struggling Spaniars offense

No reigning champion from a major tournament has made the finals for the following major tournament.  This applies to spain.  There are trends for and against each team, just a matter of which you think apply and which you want to use.

Two completely different types of teams, Portugal is built for the counter attack while France likes to possess the ball, which is not going to happen when you face Spain.

I don't follow trends, I look at the matchups and see who can win, I could care less about the 08 euros...

And I'm not so sure the smart money is on Spain, EVERYONE thinks they will advance, check out streak for the cash Wednesday, it will be 92% and above.

Ronaldo will be able to possess the ball when he is getting fed on their counter attacks

Yeah France wasn't that great, couldn't even score vs one of the worst defenses in the tournament. They had plenty of chances to capitalize vs the Spaniards and they failed miserably. Just the way that Portugal is set up makes it possible for this upset.

The counter?  I'm sorry guys, but from what you are posting you are making it seem like your knowledge on soccer is very small.  And  at using Streak for the Cash as a tool for betting, that's just a facepalm.  Recent history all points to a 1-0 Spanish victory.

Let's look back to 2010 when Spain and Portugal matched up in a friendly. A matchup where Fabregas openly stated that Spain is struggling on offense. A match where Spain dominated possession and LOST 4-0. These are rivals so don't give me that shit that Spain didn't care about the match. They are bordering countries. I agree that Spain should be favorite, they have more talent. To say that Portugal is the wrong side and at 3-1 is not worth a shot is just a dumb statement. To say that Spain didn't look like shit for the second half vs France is DUMB. I don't know if Get-Capped knows a ton about soccer or not but what I do know is everyone is allowed an opinion. You can look back as far as you want but at the moment Spain is not at their best and Portugal is playing as well as I have seen them play. This is the best defense Portugal has seen in the Euro's and it should be a great game.

I think Portugal is worth more than a shot at +290 ... pretty low if you ask me.  Spain has made it this far looking about as bad as they can.  They are not the Spain of the past that everyone assumes.

what you said makes no sense, so world cup of soccer is NOT A MAJOR TOURNAMENT? what are you nuts wc is bigger than euro cup, spain won euro 2008 and wc 2010, so they made 2 major tourney title games in a row and won both times, wtf you talkin about willis

the only way portugal wins too is if they win 1-0 cause there is no way tehy gonna score 2 goals on spain i dont think it be too hard to get posession for that long, and i think it likely spain does score a goal though atleast making it hard for me to think portugal will win unless this goes to penalties

well he is wrong either way then, because west germany won 1972 euro cup, and lost in the 1976 euro cup final to czechoslovakia. so its not true that a previous euro winner did not make it back to the title game 4 years later, west germany did. and then germany in 1992 lost the title game and won 4 years later in 1996

is also not true for world cup, look brazil won the world cup in 1994 in usa, and lost in 98 in france to france. that guy has no clue about soccer, that trend is bullshit it rare but it alrerady happen before

My book is offering Portugal at +.5 (-105).

IMO, this seems like a more sensible wager since you won't get screwed by the draw.

Chelseafan1 is a stooge but thats obvious. Anyone that thinks Spain is a sure bet, good luck with that Portugal can be very dangerous and I'm going to take a stab with them.

Anyone comparing this Spain team to the previous versions at the WC 2010 just isn't paying attention.  They've taken their passing to death strategy to a new stratosphere and just wait for a breakdown.  The impact of the Villa absence is so glaring. They've had trouble breaking down defenses in almost every game. When they have been aggressive offensively they sure haven't had much success.

How many times did their possession fizzle into nothing against FRA?  A lot.
How many quality chances did they have vs CRO?   1? 2?
They had to come back from a deficit vs ITA....

Sorry but I'll take the team playing with a ton of confidence with the most dangerous offensive player in the tournament.  The two extra days of rest isn't going to hurt either...

Spain -.5 is a fair line, but is it a true line? 

POR +.5 is a no-brainer for me...regardless of the outcome.  A draw after 90 is a good probability..
