Fuckn Websense.  I walked into work today and found out the bad news when I was gonna check out the laker game.  Not even Channelsurfing.net works for me.  I am so pissed right now.  I am an x ray tech and spend lots of time at work.  I work about 60 hours a week.  I don't know if I can take it

I have a cellphone and had to use the web on it tonight.  Just a pain in the ass and not as good obvioiusly.  But as for slinbox I never used it and don't want to lose my job getting caught.   Is it possible to get caught using slingbox???

I'm not well versed with slingbox.  I do know that you can stream games to your cell phone.

That totally sucks man.  The same exact thing just happened to me at my new job last Friday.  I came in, tried to go to my handicapping sites, to look at the days baseball card and bam - blocked. 
 
Websense is a bunch of fucking bullshit - I'm not just saying that because I feel persecuted or anything.  It's sold to these companies on the premise of three things: liability, security and productivity.  And companies (and hospitals) are buying that shit hook, line and sinker.  Just say "liability" to a hospital, and they say "How much and how soon can we get it?!?" 
 
I have rebuttals to all three.  First, most companies don't have to deal with liablity issues - ever.  And if they do, they didn't stem from the internet.  Security?  Isn't that what you pay Macafee and Norton for?  And the productivity thing, this one really pisses me off.  If a company is having productivity issues with a particular employee, then it needs to be addressed by a case-by-case basis.  Also, if a company is having productivity problems across the board, then they need to address their hiring practices.  On top of all of that, most of these companies that buy and implement Websense, are established, sucessful firms (and municipalities) that have been around for a long time.  Answer this - how the fuck did they survive without Websense for so long??  Exactly. It's bullshit.
 
I'm already in a career field that I can't stand.  This may just be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

If you have administrative rights to that computer at work, you can purchase and download various tunneling and/or proxy services. I used to use "Secure-Tunnel."  It's about $8 a month, and worth it, imho.  The way most good proxies work are that they channel all your websurfing through one URL.  So, you hit their URL, or even better yet, something else masked as their URL, like www basketweaving.com, then you can surf away for 60 hours a week, and the only thing your employer sees is that one web address.  Although Secure-Tunnel requires you to install their little utility on you machine first.  I'm completely websensed and locked out my machine at work.
 
Does anyone know of a good proxy service (I'll pay, no problem) that doesn't require a program install on you machine?

My old job had websense and I just googled "proxy servers" and used a few of the web-based servers. Most of the proxies worked ok, but had a hard time loading applications such as java and flash on some sites.

I say there probably not paying you what your worth anyway, if you have been there long enough then  use your experience to get ahead in your profession. Either way don't let it drive you crazy and  end up leaving on bad terms. That only hurts yourself as far as references are concerned.

It's sold to companies as an easier way to manage internet access and block sites without having to do it themselves.  A company would rather pay them for the service than hire a person or two to waste time with stuff like that.

There's ways to determine if a site is a proxy site as well as the obvious list of known proxy sites and I believe websense already has that capability.  It's just if the company using it implements it or not.

Turns out My hospital only blocks sports sites on the weekends.  Came into work today and sportsline and all yahoo worked just fine.   I don't get it though.  Only on the weekends.

Maybe he is on his lunch break? Your minimum wage job might only get 30 for lunch without a computer, but he might get the typical hour with a computer

What up Umgmu.  I worked on sunday in the ER and nobody came in shot up which is a good thing.  3 weeks ago had an interesting one.  Girl came in shot up and was dead on the spot. 1 hour later her man came in after turning the gun on himself.  HE was alive when he came in but didn't make it.
