have any of you ever heard of a bookie taking commision on winning bets?

Does this sound odd to you guys?..i don&#x27;t bet directly with the bookie.  I put my wagers in with a middleman who puts it into the bookie.  The middleman is telling me that he takes commission out of my winnings.  For example if I make a 200 dollar bet and theres 20 dollar commission, I wouldn&#x27;t win 200 if I win, id win 180.  If I lost I would have to pay 200&#x2B;20 commission, so 220.  Does this sound off?...I could see paying it on losing bets, but winning bets too?

Uh yeah, that&#x27;s off man. Disregard the middleman and whatever he tells you something costs. He&#x27;s getting paid by the bookie regardless. All you should care about is what you get if you win. You pay a vig (commission as he calls it, if you win) and NOTHING if you lose. He collects the bet if you lose, you lose your bet only. That is the way it should work and if it doesn&#x27;t you walk away. End of story.Also, 20% is probably the WORST possible vig (commission) he can get away with. Bet online and pay 5 to 10% vig depending on the site. It&#x27;s worth the risk given the scamster who is telling you losing bets should require a commission.

20 dollars outa 200 is only 10 percent, but yeah it didn&#x27;t seem right that he takes vig outa both my wins and losses.  I think my middleman might&#x27;ve been lying to me and pocketing money on my wins,( he would give me my winnings, but keep the so called "vig")..im going to contact the bookie himself and see what he actually does

I was saying 20% in the aggregate because he's talking 10% off the back and front ends of the bet (the wins and losses).

Bottom line. Never talk to these people again. Do not contact the bookie. You're heading for whitewater if you deal with these frauds in any way in the future. It's pretty brazen to subject any bettor to that and then 'strike a deal' with you later to cut out the middleman (making it look like he's doing you a favor when all he is doing is what any other real bookie would do).

I'd then tell him that you were taking your business elsewhere, and you had a a buddy that was going to start betting w/him, but after hearing this he decided not too, books HATE losing business.

ive done the math on this, and since u have to lay 220 to win 180 on a straight bet, that translates to a money line of -122 each way as opposed to the standard -110. ur breakeven point is about 55 % as opposed to the standard 52.38 %.

but all u have to do is hit ur customary 65 to 70 % winners which we all know u are capable of doing and this will all seem immaterial

Call it whatever you want, but this means you're laying -122 instead of -110. This means instead of needing to win 52.4% to breakeven you'll need to win 55% to breakeven. Good luck with that. Might as well donate your money to charity.

Think about it this way.  Let&#x27;s say over time you make 1,000 of these $200 bets.  You do great and hit a very strong 54%.  At normal odds you win net $6,800.  Under this scenario you lose $4,000.  Your bookie has screwed you out of $10,800.

it&#x27;s like a high school freshman who never got taught in high school regarding money management and how easily obtainable credit can be.  How easy can it sound to get a pair of credit cards with a $500 limit on each?  How about obtaining a $20,000 car through credit, with a $1500 downpayment and 15% apr?  Did you think you were able to get the car based on the pay stubs you were able to front?  Don&#x27;t be fooled that you got the car because of how much you make through your job, do realize that they will call your job and every single one of your references to embarrass you in order to get what they own or owed until you pay it off in full.i think there&#x27;s a good chance the op doesn&#x27;t really care about the -122 odds as depeche2 mentioned.  A lot of times it happens this way with many kids who have barely made it out of high school.  I know it makes you want to laugh at first, but american culture is about getting you in lifetime debt or making a living off of you right before your own eyes -$10,800 as depeche2 mentioned in post #23.  What sportsbooks or casinos even allow you to bet if you are under 21?  Some people would rather be embarrassed by a middleman that charges then -122 odds while being able to drive a brand new car they do not own, as opposed to waiting till they are at least 21, taking the bus, and having decent size bankroll saved up so that they can actual start playing then.  Has anyone known of people who are under 21, love betting on sports and have a $450 car note not including the full coverage insurance?
