Depends on what you want out of the cruise and who is all going. Meaning if just you and your wife that is one thing but if you are bringing kids that is another. I just got off the Carnival Valor for a week over Thanksgiving. While the ship was fine, the itinerary was good and the entertainment was great I really hated the food (filet minion was more like pot roast) and the DJ blarring music on the lido deck at all hours of the day and night. All in all I will not be going back with Carnival (to which my wife and I took a Carnival cruise on our honeymoon 11 years ago). We did Disney this past January with the kids and LOVED IT! Nothing I can complain about Disney other than (1) NO CASINO and (2) EXPENSIVE. However, they let you bring your own liquor on the ship (even if from a port) and the service is TOP NOTCH!
In my research for cruises this past Thanksgiving I looked at them all. I have concluded overall I prefer Disney with the kids. I prefer Royal Caribbean or Regent (more of a luxury liner) if just with wife. However, if you want one that looks fun for the kids and great with just the wife perhaps look at Oasis of the Seas or Allure of the Seas with Royal Caribbean. If you want one just for the family try Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy. If you want a nice luxury liner where the price includes a suite, airfare, top notch liquor, excursions and top food then try any Regent liner. BOL and have fun. I personally love cruises!

Never tried NCL but I have heard good things, especially the Epic. I believe they have the Nick Kid's characters there and their kids programming is very good. When I was waiting at Miami International a couple weeks ago a couple told me that NCL has Freestyle Dinning whereby you can eat when you want but they also have kids seating where the kids eat at the kids table with kid friendly foods and kid friendly servers and the adults eat at adult tables with adult friendly foods. An interesting concept. Disney has rotational dinning where there are three dinning halls (each with their unique aspects) and you rotate to these dinning halls each night for dinner. The servers are UNBELIEVABLE. They due magic tricks, cut up your kids foods, and make ketchup mickeys. The service was always exceptional IMO but I have heard the same about NCL too. You cannot go wrong with anything but Carnival if you ask me. BOL!

Where and which ship are you going on over the new year Puck? I always wanted to do a New Years cruise but not sure with the kids. We have now gone on 4 cruises the past two years with the kids and for the most part have enjoyed each and every one of them.
