#1 Posted: 7/5/2012 7:14:46 PM Alright not to bore you guys, but I figured someone else may have had this happen to them. I used to smoke pot all the time. I started probably like my sophomore year in high school and continued until I was a sophomore in college. One morning after a long night of drinking, we all woke up and got high. Nothing out of the norm. We layer around for a little bit and then headed to get some food. Midway through my meal I freaked out and had a panic attack. Everything in my entire body went numb and started to tingle. I didn't know where I was and felt as if I was blacked out. My heart was racing and I felt like I snorted a kilo of coke and was speeding balls. I left all of my friends at the restaurant and walked home about 2 miles. The whole way home I was praying that I was going to live and that I was not actually having a heart attack. After this day, I didn't sleep for like 2 nights because I was afraid of what was going to happen to me if I fell asleep. If you knew me, I am such an easy going guy. Have all the friends in the world, a great family, get good grades, and love going out and getting fucked up. Nothing was there that caused this anxiety. Everything was perfect. Ever since that day my life has been changed. I feel tired and decentralized all day and I am not myself. I have even had friends tell me that I have changed. I don't enjoy drinking as much anymore because my hangover causes so much anxiety that I feel as if I'm going to die. The first 5 minutes when I wake up, I feel good. After that, my mind is so fucked up that it is taking over my life. I was prescribed xanax to take on an as needed basis, but I pretty much need them all the time. I don't always take them though because I don't want to get dependent. Has anyone on here every had anything like this happen to them? Did they try any medicine that worked for them? Sorry for this long post, but I just got in from golf and am feeling like dog piss. Thanks guys! |

#2 Posted: 7/5/2012 7:27:41 PM I used to smoke 2-3 three big blunts per day for about 14 years. I used to get rid of it to my friends so I had it all the time. I am almost 30 now and I no longer smoke pot because I started getting massive anxiety attacks about 2 years ago. I was smoking kush only so it was really good pot. My anxiety attacks got to a point where I thought I swallowed my Adams apple every time I burned one. My heartbeat would go crazy and I would start freaking out. I take a prescription for anxiety and even with the script I would have a full fledged panic attack when smoking pot. I remember one time I started feeling pins and needles all over my body. These were not normal pins and needles. They were very painful and I can no longer smoke pot because I am unable to enjoy it due to the anxiety attacks |

#4 Posted: 7/5/2012 7:51:00 PM Anxiety is all in the mind, albeit a trick the mind plays that triggers physical symptoms. Try to focus on what is giving you the anxiety -- is it the increased heartbeat or feeling like you can focus on it?

#6 Posted: 7/5/2012 7:59:06 PM What do you mean your mind is decentralized all day? And if the only thing you can think of is the anxiety, then its almost like you are self-inflicting upon yourself. Have you heard of the term "self-fulfilling prophecy" before? The power that the mind has over the physical body is amazing and not fully understood by science.
Anxiety always begins in the mind. Always. It may manifest itself in physical symptomology, but the ultimate etiology is always a mental status.
Do you have a dog? My wife had a really serious panic attack shortly after giving birth (it was scary how bad it was, she was freaking out, shaking uncontrollably, etc.) The only thing that helped her before we got her to a health care provider was being near, petting, and rubbing our German Shepherd. Dogs and other animals seem to have a very nurturing and calming effect on anxiety attacks.

#8 Posted: 7/5/2012 8:11:24 PM Everyone has bits of anxiety from time to time but when you get so far down the road to a point where it has control of your life then it is time to get some serious help. I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you have generalized anxiety disorder. It is usually treated with SSRI's (basically antidepressants) or CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). The pills work faster but they don't really "cure" you they just cover it up and don't attack the root of the problem. CBT attacks the root of the problem and the success rates are much higher than with pills. Try looking into it.

#9 Posted: 7/5/2012 8:14:39 PM Thanks for all the input. And kap, no I don't have a dog. But I have heard things like this. And yes, I know what the self fulfilling prophecy is. It is weird how it works... |

#10 Posted: 7/5/2012 8:26:05 PM It's not the pot or the THC in the pot that could have possibly caused such a delusional reaction. My guess is that the weed you smoked was laced with a hallucinogen. Simple as that.

#12 Posted: 7/5/2012 8:59:52 PM I too had an episode like this many years ago. Felt strange all day and I was worried about it.. later on in the day while I was actually driving I had a panic attack where my whole body went to pins and needles. I pulled on the shoulder and actually got out and laid on the ground.. I was flipping out.. I went right to the hospital and they actually asked me If I was doing cocaine.. which I wasn't.. they said I hyperventilated and had a panic attack.. I was worrying about it all day and I just think the Mind is a powerful thing and if you dwell on it somethings gotta give sooner or later.. I've never had another episode like that and that was probably 20 years ago |

Bullshit, smoking weed on a daily basis will start to catch up with ya eventually, I went thru the same garbage about 7 yrs ago, vitamins, nutrition and excersize are key to the road of recovery. |

Smoking weed daily has not "caught up" to me in forty years, so I don't think it's going to "eventually" happen. Nothing ever wrong with nutrition and exercise. I'll pass on the vitamins and "road to recovery"

i think you had some strong sativa and your system didn't like it.
try some indica dominant meds and this will take care of your bullshit xanax problem. |

#20 Posted: 7/6/2012 12:13:43 AM I've never smoked a lot ... Maybe once or twice a week but I had a similar bad trip when I was in university. Now I pretty much can't smoke without first drinking 6-8 beers or I start freaking out again. |

#21 Posted: 7/6/2012 12:51:17 AM Do some meditation. Get control of your consciousness. Quit living inside your head. Think about how good the physical world feels and how much you love what it has to offer. Breathing exercises. In through the mouth, out the nose. |

It's what really causes anxiety.
Great way to gain control of your consciouness is meditating for 10 minutes in the morning first thing.
Yoga for 10 or 20 minutes will slow your mind and body down.
Working out on a regular basis will kick in endorphins that make your body feel great.
When your driving in your car alone try and think nothing but positive thoughts, after a while those negative feelings that cause anxiety will slowly go away. At some point you won't even think about it anymore. Most important thing is finding ways to calm your mind down so you don't lose yourself in your thoughts. |

#25 Posted: 7/6/2012 3:19:59 AM i get bad anxiety sometimes. Came out of nowhere one year after a few all nighters cramming for finals on adderrall. I took a celebatory keef bubbler rip and i coughed so hard i couldn't breath. It triggered my first acid reflux episode and panic attack. I got to the emergency room and was told i had to wait a while so i flosberry flopped holding my chest onto the main table. It worked like a charm. Since i've been prescribed klono and xanax. I quit klono cold turkey and im working on getting rid of xanax also. It's still nice to have around for traveling or incase of a panic attack, but i also don't want to be dependent on any pills and my tolerance was skyrocketing. I took 6mg and was the mvp of a pick up soccer game a week ago. That amount would put most people into a 15 hour slumber within 30 minutes. Start exercising more and eat better. Set goals for yourself and get garbage done. You do all that and the anxiety will be at a minimum, If you do smoke weed get kush or a weed that gives a good body high. It seems like some of the other strands mind darn you so go body high style. good luck |
