I'm a huge animal guy, but really? They can't find something more worth-while to work on? 
They don't seem to be too concerned about the $100 million in damage and the devastation for the city. But 13 or so animals die and it's a race to the courts. fool.

Something to consider - PETA's stance is anti zoo. They feel like the animals shouldnt be there in the first place. The fact that the people care about the animals is not their concern - their concern is for what they feel is best for animals - which is to not be in zoos.
I have conflicting feelings about PETA. They certainly are media person - and will flock to any cause that will get them attention. But they also are trying to do what they believe in.
There are lots of organizations that will help the people of the flooding. They feel like their mission is to be the protector of animals.

It may also be important to note that the Duluth zoo has not always carried itself in the best light. Taken from its own website...
It is no secret that the Lake Superior Zoo has faced trying times in recent years. In the fall of 2006 the zoo lost its accreditation status with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Faced with many challenges, the City of Duluth turned over the operation of the zoo to the Lake Superior Zoological Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization on March 1, 2009. Significant progress has been made toward addressing deficiencies cited by the AZA. The Zoological Society plans to seek re-accreditation in 2011. The Lake Superior Zoological Society is currently seeking resources to help achieve this goal. More than $800,000 is needed to complete repair projects cited by the AZA.
This is a zoo that has been on PETA's watch list for some time.
I don't really see what PETA has done wrong here, they've simply asked for an investigation. They are not wasting their own resources, nor tapping into charitable donotions. They are asking for the city attorney of Duluth to investigate and press charges if warranted. They are looking out for animal rights as they always have.
Is it reasonable to assume that more could have been done to save these animals lives, absolutely, anytime a loss of life has occurred more should have been done. |

If there is an ongoing problem with the zoo then I agree w/ PETA grinding their fools..
Vanzack, zoos are now unfortuantely a product of our centuries of slaughter Species have been wiped out. Imo cooperative breeding is critical and it's pretty close to being all that we have left to rebound.
