Here is the story.

I have an account with a local with a credit limit of $15k and I don't mind placing bets for friends here and there because we usually watch the games together. One of my buddies that i thought was my friend got a little carried away and lost 5k in a 2 week span and paid up without any questions. The past week he totally went nuts with my account and lost $8,800 on many crazy parlays and big straight bets. This Jag bag now has the courage to tell me to darn off and its my problem to deal with.
I have gone to the runner/bookie and told him the situation and the best advice they give me is they can do installment payments. WTF im never trusting anyone again for anything to do with money. I've tried everything to get the money from him, if you have a solution please post it, if not its all good...i fucked up by trusting someone.

So i have $2,200 left on my credit and am going to try and win some back. Not going for it all here just want to cut it down so its manageable. I'm handing over 5k in 2 weeks as our agreement was and then $3,800 as a payment plan. I'm going to continually update the situation here and also let you know how my wagers go as we go along. I'm looking to see if anyone has run into this situation and maybe a better solution than going to kick his behind.

Let the comments flow.

1. Never place bets for friends unless cash is in hand.

2. What kind of idiot are you to give him access to your account in the first place.

3. Let me answer that = A friggin idiot after he just lost 5k the week before.

Have fun.

There are many options available to you, it all depends on how you want to handle it.

There are no friends when it comes to gambling. And, no one has honor anymore so you cant trust ANYONE.
I wouldnt place a bet for my own father without money in hand.
Too many bad experiences.
Learn from this.

I think we need more details: What does this guy do for a living? How was he able to easily pay off $5k asap? How did he tell you it was your problem, not his? What was his justification? Do you know where he lives? Where he works? Do you know his family members and/or close friends? How long have you known him?

First of all, you've done a really stupid thing by lending someone (who's not really a friend) access to your account. I am going to assume you understand how bad you f'd that up.

If this guy has any conscience what-so-ever, you may be able to convince him that he should be making the payments on this payment plan.

You must have a mutual friend, right? This guy had to be introduced to you from someone that he is perhaps closer with? You may want to get this person involved and ask for his/her help. See if his real friend can talk some sense into him.

If there is there such a person in this situation, you should start there

kapono here you go man:

this kid was a buddy of mine from highschool and i actually re-aquainted with him bc he needed a job. I gave him a job and he earned some money, when he was out of work as an electrician. He said he got the money from his retirement account from cashing out early for some things he needed.

He told me pretty much he gave 5k and to tell the bookie to darn off. He told me he was not paying a damn dime and if i did anything slick i better watch my back. This was crazy to me bc we were actually good friends in High School.

Yea i do know where he lives, but don't know where he works. I do know his mom and dad well but, if i do something like tell his mom, im scared something will happen to me.

For all the people telling me im dumb for letting him bet with me, well like someone said above. I learned from this, im just trying to see what the best solution is..or if there is a solution

You don't really have any legal options, so you gotta figure out a way to make this guy understand it would be in his best interest to figure out a way to pay this off. I'm not saying threaten him with physical violence, or hire someone to do so, but you gotta find out what (if anything) is important to him. Find that and you gotta find a way to leverage that into getting him to cooperate.

Why are you scared that if you get his family involved, something will happen to you?

Like i said, i have 2,200 to get some back. My reasoning here is im already in for the garbage i have to re-pay for some cock sucker, might as well try and get some back. NOT looking to get it all back even tho it would be great....if there is a lady luck im pleading that she be watching me. So for the week so far i have these locked in so far.

Babooshki, do you really think he would do something to you or your family? Has he been known to act violent in the past?

If not, you have to call his bluff.

Kapono he's trying to extort me for the money he owes. Saying its my bets and my money and to darn off. "you handle the situation, its your money your account so you pay it. Im  done with this, your on your own, and don't try any slick garbage if you don't want someone following you. Leave it alone."

kaufee, he's been to jail for 18 months for burglary/stealing/theft. I don't know the type of people he's met in jail or people he can get to go after me.

Bottom line i don't want my family hurt.

I thougth about it too, i think he's bullshitting but can't take the risk with a new family....

Oh man, he's an Ex Con. Geez, I'm not sure calling his bluff would be wise.

If he doesn't have a conscience, and a lot of Ex Cons don't; You may have to chalk this up as a life lesson. $8800 is a lot of money, but it's not life changing.

Sorry this happened to you bro but you had this coming. You gave this ex con access to your account you're going pay for it. It sucks but chalk it up to being dumb. Pay back the money and let it go. Don't seek revenge otherwise you're going to have this problem in your life a lot longer than it will take for you to pay back the money.

BOL in whatever you decide.

Baboosh -- any close mutual friends with this guy? I'd get them involved if they don't already know about it.

You gotta be careful how you go about this though. Another way to think of it Baboosh -- how well do you know this book that you owe the money to? He probably would not be very happy that there is someone out there who wants to stiff his book. Obviously he'll look to you for repayment, but he may have some connections in the underworld that could know this guy as well or be mutual friends. Sometimes it takes peer pressure to work situations like this out.
