LOL.   All these commercials about the special about him makes me wonder.  If I was drunk and sitting where he was, I would have done the same.  I feel real sorry for the guy. His life must be ruined.  What happened to him? Anyone know?

Any human being would have done the exact same friggin thing.  Maybe if crying girl Alou didn't make a big friggin deal about it at the time and the Cubs didn't end up BLOWING the friggin series, he would be living a normal life right now.  Sadly though, he is not I'm sure.

Cubs fans need to get over it, as long as you have jerkoffs Ramirez and Soriano, that team will go absolutely nowhere.

I can say with 100 percent certainty that if I was in that exact same situation i'd be clearing people out with their hands up.  Nothing annoys me more watching a game than home fans interfering with catchable balls for the home team.

Bartman i believe moved to Montana area if i remember correctly. Sad story, devoted Cubs fans life ruined by a split second reaction to catch a foul ball.

He had to make a decent killing from interviews or a book though, right?

I don't think he has ever done an interview. You guys are right, everyone around him was going for the ball, they just did not get a hand on it like he did.

That’s what I found so hilarious about the whole thing.  The vast majority of the people that were crucifying him would have done the exact same thing.

I think he ended up moving far away and changing his name.

Also a lot of cubs fans conveniently forget that their team had an easy double play ball that would have ended the inning with the cubs having a 3-1 lead with just 3 more outs to go.

But, being the cubs, they fucked it up.

The Bartman story is one of the most played out sports stories ever. First off, Alou sucked with the leather, no way he could have caught that ball. Secondly and most important in my opinion was the fact that Alex Gonzales booted a routine double play ball to end the inning. What doesn't the media use him as the goat, like Buckner was. The only thing that Bartman did wrong was the fact that he never defended himself. garbage, if that was me, I'd give everyone a big ole darn off for trying to say the Cubs collapse was because I tried to catch a foul ball headed to my seat. Bartman should have manned up and stood up for himself instead of going into hiding. The kid did nothing wrong.

exactly.  this is what I used to say all the time when this discussion would come up.  What people always fail to mention is how the cubs screwed up and had a key error BEFORE this even happened.  And then they still screw up and lost the lead after this happened.

Exactly!

You make your own breaks.  The fact that the Cub fans have bought into this whole thing just adds to the legend that is the Cubs.  Pathetic in my opinion.

The Cubs are losers and so are Cubs fans.

Alou should eat a person.

I wouldnt have reached over. Why do people say "everyone would have done the same thing?" If you are a fan and have a clue you dont interfere with the ball

Yeah it was all Bartman. The errors by the cubs after that had nothing to do with the outcome.  Just Like the eagles coming back on the Giants last year. It was all on the punter kicking to Jackson. The Defense giving up 21 points in 5 minutes before that had no influence on the outcome.

Here is the clip of that inning:

I always think about the guy sitting next to him who also reached for the ball, but missed.  Luckiest guy in the stadium

Everyone would not have done the same thing, but most of the people around him WERE doing the same thing.  It's not like he reached way out into the field of play to try and catch it.

Continuing to blame this guy when the Flubs had all sorts of chances after that to close out the game is bush league.

There was a great story on ESPN a couple of years ago about this. He is now in Florida they said. He received numerous death threats and something to do with his children being harassed or something was the final straw and he lefty Chicago for good.

Worst part is the back end and history of this guy and how he was a huge fan and had been to so many games over the years and put in lots of money into this organization through tix, memorabilia, etc. He had a crazy shrine in his basement. Included hundreds of tix for back when he was a child til present when this happened.

Complete shame and an embarrassment to Chicago and USA sports fans. Just pathetic!
