A Minpin and an Irish Greyhound, but the BEST I ever had was a rat terrier. Get em as a pup, ez to train.

Lab, smartest dog I have ever seen. When she was a puppy she took a piss on the floor, then went and got the paper towels and sat them down next to the piss. No kidding.

Boxers are nice dogs but I've never known one that won't run away the moment the leash comes off or door is left open. Too hyper imo.

Interesting.  I got a mutt, but I think the boxer part is what you speak of.  She just loves running away.  Probably a half dozen times in the year we've her, including last night.  We always seem to hunt her down, but man.  There's nothing worse then driving around the neighborhood at midnight with a flashlight yelling your dog's name, and then when she's found, she don't wanna be caught.

Agree.

To the OP, I'd stay away from boxers.  Very high energy and the tend to die young.

West Highland Terrier.

Awesome dog. Whispers, hides her face, and gives hugs, retrieves leash when it's walk time.

Brilliant as well.

I had a Husky for 15 years, loved that dog. A lot of hair though. Another dog, if left off the leash she is gone. Always came back though. Very gentle with the kids. The only person my dog ever bite was my mom. The dog grabbed a chicken breast right off the table and my crazy mom thought she should try and take it back from her. Not a good idea. From that day on, my mom thought my dog was mean. The dog thought my mom was nuts. I had to agree with the dog.
