• The big question in this game will be if Notre Dame can keep a hold of the ball and not be ranked 118th in TO Margin like last year.
• Tommy Rees will be suspended in this game as a 3rd year starter that needs to finally step up and become the leader of this team. The Irish return 7 players on offense and 6 players on defense but they have players all over the field with game experience.
• Navy will come into this game with Trey Miller at QB who played in the last seven games last year with his first start against Notre Dame. Head coach Niumatalolo said Miller has a long way to go in understanding the offense which does not sound like he is all the confident in his starting QB. The offense is returning 5 players with 2 of them on the offensive line.
• The midshipmen’s defense with be returning 6 players with all four secondary players returning. They did lose team captain DE Jabaree Tuani, second in most sacks in Navy history, from last year’s team which will not help their cause.
• Notre Dame is very familiar with the triple option and I think this will be no different. I expect them to come out with a fire under their ass from the embarrassment they got last year losing the South Florida at home for the first game. But Notre Dame will be without QB Rees in this one and I don’t know much about the Redshirt freshman that will be starting this game.
Marshall @ West Virginia -24.5 Total 64.5
• The Mountaineers are nothing new to the Thundering Herd. They have been playing each other for years.
• This is a battle between QB Rakeem Cato and QB Geno Smith and we all know who the better player is but Marshall seems to step it up when they need to against the better teams.
• This is a no play for me because I think Marshall will keep it kinda close in this game and it could come down to a play or two to determine the winner of the spread.
Ohio @ Penn St. -6.5 Total 44.5
• Penn St. let’s not beat a dead dog but this whole situation will play a role in this game.
• I kinda like Penn St. in this game just based on the fact that everyone seems to be against them but I am going to stay far far away from this game and this team. I feel like the only value you will get on a Penn St. game will be to bet for them and I just don’t want to do that until I have seen more.
Northwestern @ Syracuse +1.5
• Too many question in this game for me. Will Wildcat QB Kain Colter be able to step up and fill in for my boy Dan Persa? Will Orange LB Marquis Spruill be able to come back from his injury in spring? Will Orange QB Ryan Nassib be able to step up and score some points for a team that ranked 84th in scoring offense? Will the Wildcats be able to stop anyone a defense?
Miami Ohio @ Ohio St. -22.5 Total 47
• Zac Dysert comes into this game as a 3 year starter and was the leader of a passing offense that ranked 14th last year and that is with a offensive line that allowed 47 sacks. The redhawks return 8 starters from last years team ranked 75th in total offense (that is crazy with the QB that they have) and 4 of them are on the offensive line.
• The Miami defense returns 7 starters on a team that last year was ranked 48th in total defense. The one area with the most improvement needed will be the LB’s and also with a defensive line that averages 255 pounds (lol haha).
• The Buckeyes come into this game with the new look offense of Urban and returning QB SO Braxton Miller (who will work perfect in this offense being the Dual threat QB he is). They also return 6 other starters with 2 of those starters on the offensive line.
• Like on offense the Buckeyes are also returning 7 players on defense. They will be a LOAD up front with All-American John Simon and 1st team preseason player Johnathan Hankins who both combined for 27 tackles for loss last year. They also return all 4 secondary players. They will need to work on the LB core with no returning starters but the big ten is known for their LB’s.
• This game spells disaster for the Redhawks. Their offensive line was terrible last year and I don’t expect any miracle with the offseason. How are they going to match up against a defensive front that is one of the best in the nation? Aweful. I like Zac Dysert but he is going to have no time to throw the ball. The redhawks also ranked 75th last year against the run and I expect the Buckeyes to run at will all over this team. I like Ohio St. in this one.
Western Michigan @ Illinois -10 Total 50.5
• This is a no play for me. I want to see QB Alex Carder for Western Michigan play he will be a hidden gem this year. Illinois should have a pretty good year this year and I really don’t understand why they went down the drain so easy last year. This game is a toss-up might throw W. Michigan in a teaser but might not haha.
Tulsa @ Iowa St. +2 Total 52.5
• Iowa St. comes into this game with new QB SO Jared Barnett and new offensive coordinator (former receivers coach) Messingham. They are also returning 6 players on offense with 3 on the offensive line.
• On defense the Cyclones have the best LB duo in the country with Jake Knott and AJ Klein. This will be the heart of a defense that only returns 5 players to this year.
• Tulsa will come into this game with a new QB as well, Nebraska transfer Cody Green. He will be accompanied by 6 returners with 2 on the offensive line.
• A defense for Tulsa that was ranked 87th in total defense last year returns 7 players,
• I do not think the Tulsa offense that was so good last year will be the same this year and their defense will have to step up and I just don’t see it in this first away game for them. I like Iowa St. in this contest at home.
Nevada @ California -10.5 Total 55.5
• This game is a no play for me. I lean the over with the 2 returning QB’s in this game but will most likely not have a play in this game to much unknown for me.
So Mississippi @ Nebraska -20 Total 53
• Taylor Martinez is back and ready for his junior campaign with 7 other returning starters on offensive side of the ball. The only real question mark on this team will be the offensive line that needs to replace 3 starters.
• Bo Pelini’s teams are known for their defense and with them slacking last year with a ranking at total defense of 37th they are ready to come out and play. The problem for them is that they are losing their top 3 playmakers from last year but do return 7 players.
• So Miss comes into this game with first year head coach Ellis Johnson and Chris Campbell , Redshirt Junior who was sidelined all last year with a shoulder injury.
• The Golden Eagles offense returns 6 players and the defense returns 4 players. The defense only returns 2 players from the front 7.
• This matchup fairs well for Nebraska: Nebraska’s running attack against a front 7 that only returns 2 players, a new qb in Chris Campbell for So Miss against a cornhusker team that is known for defense and a home game for Nebraska. Even though in previous years So Miss has been no easy win I think this year they will not be nearly as good as years past. I like Nebraska in this game.
