I know this team is stacked on offense with 2013 #1 NFL Pick QB Matt Barkley, WRs Woods and Lee, Rbs Mcneal and Redd, and an OL bringing back 4 of 5 starters which gave up the fewest sacks in the country last year. I know Matt Kalil was a big loss but LT Walker was highly recruited and should be fine. The only concern on offense is injuries and depth. My concern about this team is on the other side of the ball however.
USC's defense does not impress me for a national championship team. I know they have recruited well like they do every year but they have no front 7 depth. The LBs are good but their DTs are green and have proven nothing. At DE Wes Horton was 1st team all Pac 12 and he should be a good run stopper but hes just an avg pass rusher and DE Devon Kennard at the other DE spot was hyped coming out of HS and has done nothing. They have no depth behind these DEs and the LB depth is terrible after the starters. I really see their lack of depth hurting them this year. Their secondary looks sold with Mcdonald and Starling at Safety and Robey at CB but the other CB spot is a question mark as well. I just dont see this team as a championship level defense unless the offense just outscores everyone every game.
Lets not forget USC scored 19 pts vs Minnesota last year and beat them by 2. They scored 23 vs Utah and won by 9. They also beat Arizona by 7 and gave up 41 pts. These 3 teams sucked last year. Their defense gave up 41 vs Arz, 56 vs Stan, 35 vs Oregon, and 43 vs Arz State. I am not impressed with what they did last year aside from the Oregon game when they got off to a blazing start and still almost blew that game and the Stanford game where they played neck and neck vs Luck before faltering in OT. If you take away their best defensive performance of the year when they shutout UCLA they gave up 25ppg. Thats a lot of pts for a championship level team. They gave up 25 ppg in conference too. This team was also not great in the redzone last year on offense or defense and thats where games are won. This is the most loaded USC team since 2008 with Sanchez but even that team lost at Oregon State and they had a great defense that year.
I think USC is very vulnerable and will not go undefeated or play in the national title game. I dont think they can handle Oregon at home for 60 mins with their poor defensive depth. Their defensive players balls will be dragging by the 4th quarter. Oregon also will have the best defense they have ever had under Kelly this year. They have a lot of depth on their DL and its the best DL at Oregon under Kelly. The offense should be great again as this system is a plug and play system. They have talent too with Black Mamba, Huff, Barner, Vaughan, and with Mariotta most likely at QB they have a guy who can run better than either of last two Qbs they had in Masoli and Thomas. I also think USC will have tough games at Stanford who always matches up well with them and at Utah. Dont discount at Washington either with alot of former USC coaches if Washington's defense is better. You heard it here first. USC=Overrated!

way too thin depth wise to hold up over the long haul... D is not strong enough .... not strong/deep enough in the trenches... Ducks have a more favorable schedule and should win the Pac 12

I see this so often. Overhyped team at the beginning of the season. Lane Kiffin hasn't proved much. He doesn't have the firepower on offense that Carroll had. Under Carroll USC WAS a top team in the country-his teams were flat out incredible teams.

The question should be...does the loss of the Honeybadger really impact LSU's ranking?
Don't get me wrong, he is a great playmaker but that little CB does not affect their ranking that much in my opinion. They are still an equal threat without him as they were with him in my opinion.

since when did preseason polls matter? who cares who is #1 right now. the polls are only used so ESPN can show the match up of ranked teams early in the season.

I hate preseason polls, why cant they wait til they play one game and then give their opinion..Teams losing starters at QB and RB, in particular, are hard to predict! But i guess that why they are "experts" with the voters not playing any favorites! Yeah right!

I think that the first poll should be released after week 3 at the earliest. Preseason polls give an unfair headstart as teams are ranked by prognostication rather than being evaluated by on the field merit.
If teams ranked #1, #3, and #19 in the preseason polls finish the season undefeated, it's highly unlikely that the team that started at #19 would be able to make it to the BCS CG even if they were one of the two best teams.

like stated before USC s defense is suspect.I dont think USC will beat @utah..Im an SEC guy,and this has nothing to do with 2012 edition, but if Final 4 was implemented in 2002..Sc wouldve won at least 4 titles from 2002 to 2008..Not 2004 bc Auburn would got that ass lol ..U know Monte is best def coach on planet..Maybe its time Kiffin cashes his check.I think Barkley is Montana ,Brady good and WR ARE STUDS.

College football is just better when USC is good.If Auburn could beat anybody it would be UsC..They came to Auburn with a new QB ..Kiffin is a great recruiter, but he is such a jerk.On flip side,I know his dad keeps in check.Gets Raider gig at32..lol..The boy can sell.I lost a huge pkg taking Domers bc I thought Kiffin was done. His teams play hard..Sc IS GONNA BE DAMN GOOD!..Who would love to see the 2003 national title we never got to see..usc vs Lsu..that would get some ratings!
