#1 Posted: 8/5/2012 3:19:37 PM Talked to a friend of mine who plays minor league baseball, who played at LSU. He said home field advantage is huge, and can negate some of the other teams talent simply by where they are playing. ESPECIALLY in the SEC! Anybody else have thoughts or some insight into this....??? |

#3 Posted: 8/8/2012 4:50:11 PM Its big if the fans are going nuts and the fans stay into the game. you need to take the crowd out of the game early if your on the road! I have ALWAYS wondered why the better team didnt win on the road?? The calls seem to go the home teams way, and besides the noise and the unfamiliar surroundings there is no differece on the road vs at home. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE IS A BIG DEAL BECAUSE, THEY SLEEP IN THEIR OWN BEDS, VISITOR SLEEPS IN HOTEL, THE HOME TEAM HAS QUIET ON OFFENSE AND NOISE ON DEFENSE, AND THE CALLS SEEM TO GO FOR THE HOME TEAM!! |

#4 Posted: 8/8/2012 5:04:44 PM Plus, road team loses a day of prep to travel
Road team may be unfamiliar with weather conditions
Road team may have distractions (night life, women, etc)
Sometimes, a team that is struggling is better off on the road, than at home where they might get booed. |

#6 Posted: 8/8/2012 8:32:16 PM Home field is definitely huge, especially at places like LSU where the fans are waiting outside of the stadium for the visitors buses to show up and then proceed to rock them. I also think they put Mike the tiger and his cage right outside the visitors locker room so they have to walk past him on the way to the field! That's pretty bad behind!
Having said that, I don't think a road crowd will affect a veteran team as much. Once they've been in college for a year or two they know what to expect and wont be intimidated so easily.
I've seen some coaches that like to receive the ball to open the game if they win the toss. The thinking is, if you can drive down the field and score you can take the home crowd out of the game immediately. |

#7 Posted: 8/8/2012 9:11:01 PM Home Field Advantage is the greatest equalizer in college sports. Im telling you right now there is no other factor that's greater.

#8 Posted: 8/8/2012 9:46:28 PM The adverse effect of travel decreases as a player gains experience and maturity. Many rookie college starters (first season as a traveling starter) suffer an extreme adverse effect due to jet leg, poor sleep (can't fall asleep in hotel), poor eating, and general anxiety.
Also, changes in climate, elevation, and time (e.g. PT to ET) have an adverse effect on traveling players. |

#10 Posted: 8/9/2012 12:22:04 AM I think it's all in where you play. However, home field is a huge advantage.
There are those rare cases that it doesn't factor in at all. First example off the top of my head is Ole Miss. They have suck rod talent, and a suck rod fan base.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Miss St! The fans are loud and the cowbells are in your ear. Miss St has a great advantage at home.
I apologize for using two SEC schools in my example but that is 99% of my focus. |

#11 Posted: 8/9/2012 1:22:25 AM I guess the main reason for this post is the South Carolina vs. Vandy game. Nobody would argue the " cocks" are the better team here. But UT seems as though everyone is a lil gun shy to pull the trigger on em. Myself included. Which brings me back, to homefield advantage especially in SEC atmospheres.?!?!? |

#13 Posted: 8/9/2012 3:04:31 AM Its Huge..LsU on Sat night is just rocking..I rarely bet against home dogs in SEC..I bet that Sc-Vandy game is gonna be a snoozer.I see a 16-13 type game. This is best team Spurrrier has ever had at Scarolina.I like a 2game 6pteaser SC-hkd & Vandy +12hk..Vandy usually struggles early in SEc play but this is a new Vandy. They have a gutsy coach and Aaron Rodgers lil brother Jordan @Qb who is inconsitent, but very good at times.Sc has punishing, athletic D..TOUGH game to call, but like u said Scar has better team. |

#15 Posted: 8/9/2012 1:06:17 PM @ GoGo. IMO with a specific focus in the SEC...LSU, Bama, Auburn, and Miss St. are consistently a huge home field environment.
Unless Vandy had some type of "revelation"...I don't see Vandy being a huge home field advantage. With that being said...So. Car is one of my fav bets at -7 or less. Once again...just my opinion.

#16 Posted: 8/9/2012 3:58:40 PM Going on the road in CFB is huge, and usually the spread factors that in. so if you are betting ATS the factor is minimal. for instance, oregon at home is -35.5 vs arkansas state,
but if the game were held in a practice facility with 200 scouts on hand only, the number might only be 27.5 or 29.5...
usually the books factor in HF advantage
