just saw last week's "discussion".....

as long as rules/format hasn't changed.....of course no reason for complaints....

HONESTY.....ain't got nothing to do with it

of course whoever picks the games has an edge.....as you naturally pick those  that interest you...(not that you're trying to screw somebody)....
*at $50.....I have no issue at all with this contest
if I wanna do better....just work harder....simple

example>    one of my top plays was Zona....
so ya think (if I were picking) that one would be one of the games?....probably so....definitely over Duke/Wake
*Zona would then have been my #10 play.....> my score would be improved no doubt ...may not win....but my total score at season's end would be better .....without question

you would see many more games from CUSA......MTW.....and Sun Belt.....much fewer from BE and ACC....of which I have practically zero interest

remedy?....
*games picked at random......maybe by rotation #....like say every 5th game or so (50-55 games each week).....or you take turns picking games....should be one from each conference at least.....to eliminate regional advantages.......this one seems Big East / ACC heavy....> south/west maybe have larger spreads sure  ....still edge/bias is there regardless....

this year..if anyone gets close to that Boom....the right thing to do would be to let whomever.....pick the games the last 1-2 weeks ......or whatever

*good idea maybe to always add half-point......to eliminate pushes

Bookie... Complete dis agree with having a advantage because I choose the games. Go Back and look!!! there are only 10 - 13 games on the average every week that have those spreads of 7 points or less. So there!!! It's in BLACK AND WHITE

horse hockey....

hypothetical:   with stakes raised for emphasis

I come to you with idea for contest ....$1000 to enter
I design format/rules....BUT.....I not only participate and eligible for prizes.....but I get to pick the games too?.....
what dumbass would do that?

any takers let me know.......

not a big math / statistics guy myself...the edge is no doubt there....but the extent (in a % maybe)...who knows....very small to significant

I guarantee you if you went to an individual that designs studies...contests whatever.....and understands the potential for bias.....they would get a huge belly laugh if shown this "model"...

again....small stakes ...ALL work done by you....no issue at all......thanks for doing it.........

it would be like if we played golf.....$100 a hole...automatic presses....(wear your behind out BTW)

I get to pick the holes....(there just might be a lotta dogleg lefts).....same challenge for both of us right?
c'mon I'm an honest guy!....I wouldn't screw you!.....

you're not thinking clearly....

POINT?......you aren't intentionally screwing anybody

last 5 weeks....29 or so of 50 games have involved teams from Big 10.....Big East....or ACC......
     *LW > 8....week 7 > 7

therefore....guys that are from those areas have a DISTINCT advantage....the smaller spreads don't excuse the built in bias

*reverse this...and say the Big 12.....PAC 12.....and MTW/CUSA took up 30.....you don't think west coast guys like the MUGG would be doing better?....really?

anyone that understands these things.....would tell you in order for this to be TOTALLY fair.....the games must be picked at random...or by a 3rd disinterested party (not your wife).....

If the spreads were within 7 points or less the WAC PAC12 or BIG 12 whatever... then they would be on the card.

Your NOT Thinking Clearly.

I cant control the fact that games around the country aren't within a 7 point spread. Because games from the SEC ACC or BIG 10 are within 7 points doesnt mean Im picking the picking the games I like.

Total Bull garbage.

I think this only a topic of discussion is because im leading this contest.

I guess if 7 of the 10 games this week are from the ACC SEC or BIG 10..............I guess Im cheating.... Oh yeah, other games around the country aren't within the 7 points.... But I guess that's my fault.

Like I said, I will change the format next season or whatever.....

Scratch golfer huh? I have been around 1 or 2 for the last 10 years.

Last week....no games from the Big 12 were within the 7 points. The only one close was Mizz / osu game. But that was at 8 when I posted the games.... But I guess thats my fault.

The PAC 12 I put one game on there... I didnt put the Thursday night game on there because it has seemed a lot of people were having a hard time getting the picks before Thursday. WAZU and Oregon S.T was on there but I have put Oregon s.t games on the card every week it seems...

I guess thats my fault.

your argument is carrying no weight.

I dont give a garbage what the 10 games are... I really dont.

I cant control that vegas will only give us about 10 -13 games a week to choose from that are 7 points or less..

Damnit, Boom, why didn't you put North Texas vs ULM on there? Would've been my 10-pointer. Anti-Sun Belt bias!!!!!!

I can see both sides..

On the one side, because there are so few games that are 7 pt and under spreads, the games that are picked are pretty random and I really don't think Boom has any agenda

on the other side, I could see certain games or teams that are constantly picked (Clemson 4 times this year comes to mind) whereas if there was an impartial person doing it, Clemson might of only made 2 cards..

Not complaining (as I'm in 2nd place), but I def think certain areas or conference are chosen more and that is totally unconscious..

Wondering if we take a look at the 1st 8 weeks, what % of games came from what conference.. I'd venture to bet the ACC has had the most games on the card

Just a suggestion for next year, there is 1 game per conference that's auto-selected and if there's no game in that conference, there is a rotation to the conference that gets 2 games..

Either way, this is fun and it's nice to be apart of something like this with bunch of good cappers

so just looking at Challenge weeks 5-8 (my recent posts don't go back farther than that), the breakdown of games selected by conference are below...

36 conference games selected

Conf - Games selected - % of total
B1G    - 10 - 28%
ACC    - 8  - 22%
BE      - 5 - 14%
P10     - 4 - 11%
B12     - 4 - 11%
SEC    - 3  - 8%
MWC   - 1 - 3%
CUSA  - 1 - 3%

4 non-con games selected..

Those 8 teams came from:

  • 3 Independent
  • 1 BE
  • 1 P10
  • 1 B12
  • 1 MWC
  • 1 SEC

Again, no malice on Boom's part.. we all love ya.. just interesting is all..

Fellas....why are we all bitching about the format after week 8 when you all didn't seem to have a problem with the sytem at the beginning of the year? The format was explained clearly and nobody said garbage. Not only didn't anyone say anything but you all went ahead and donated $50. Seems to be a bit hypocritical if you ask me.....everyone's fine with garbage until their fools start getting blown out of the friggin wa wa. I don't know garbage about the ACC but instead of watching the Young and the Restless like some of you primadonna people, I dig through a little football info and make a play. If you look at the lines, only a handful of spreads exist each week that are under 7 points. Whether I'm in the top five now or I'm in the middle of the pack at the end of the contest, my opinion will remain the same. Qut your friggin bitching and start handicapping.....pussies.

SNF. . . this may be because the B1G and the ACC have the most evenly matched teams. Lotta blowouts in the Pac-12 and SEC.  Also, Northwestern has been on the card every damn week, and I keep picking them.
